commute from PHX to LAX or SFO

Sent to me by a cop buddy of mine. Dust storm between PHX and TUS today dropped things to zero vis. Yet another reason I wouldn't want to do that commute.

So this interview is getting closer and I am feeling as prepared as I can be for it. I know the joke is get a mirror and fog it, you will be in. As funny as that is, I am still nervous and taking it very seriously. Now for my follow up question...

I have made the decision to stay in PDX. My lady has a decent job here that she is progressing up in the ranks, so moving will be hard on her. With that being said, I really dread commuting. My personality is one that stresses being early and hate it when i am just "on time". That has proven to lower my qol at home previously as a commuter as I would constantly stress about loads and flights delaying or canceling. So I am going to tell them I want the ERJ, not because of the airframe but the base I want to end up in. In all reality the CRJ seems like a better deal with less time on reserve and all, however the stress of commuting for two years no matter what negates the pros of choosing the CRJ. The recruiter told me that there is now a waiting list for ERJ classes. Is there truth to that?

I will again recommend Penair. We need FO's in PDX. It's not a terrible schedule, fun flying, there is supposed to be a pay raise coming in August, and it's an 80 hour guarantee for Portland. Not to mention the $50 per diem for each overnight. That's an extra $600 per month minimum.

Will they pay for all my ratings? If so, sign me up, seriously!

If you are offered a choice of equipment you are frozen in that status for two years.

Also, what happened to taking the first available class? Damn kids nowadays...

Is this where I get the entitlement generation, never worked for anything, free loader speech?? :)

Honestly, I would take the first class available but if they are offering the equipment that allows me to drive to work, why not?

In 100.0% of domiciles with the shiny jet, we also operate the Skidoo Jet.

Do not pick the ERJ, unless you want to sit reserve and continually fall backwards in seniority. Then again, with the deliveries coming up who knows...

BUT I WANT TO FLY A SHINIER JET!

(It's like those eggheads who wouldn't take the Brasilia, and then we stopped hiring completely.)

Sorry for the vacation @JordanD

Not sure if it was the way my post came across or if I am missing your sense of sarcasm but again, I do not care about the plane that I fly. What I do care about is getting a chance to drive to work within a decent amount of time at a company. If I wasn't being told by multiple friends who are at Horizon to stay away because they hate it there, I would go there and happily fly the Q400. Not new and definitely not shiny. I would also go to PenAir and fly the 340 in order to have a PDX base, however they do not have a ATP CTP course yet. Heck, I would even stay at SeaPort and fly the van. I enjoy it there but realize for career progression I need to fly planes with two of those spinning things attached to the plane. If SkyWest still had an EMB-120 base in PDX, I would choose that plane in a heart beat as well, but they don't, so...

So what do you recommend? Picking the CRJ and commuting to best case SFO or SLC once I hold seniority to bid those bases? That seems about as close as I will get to home, I have been told SEA is a senior base for CRJ pilots as PDX is until those go away (the PDX based CRJ's).
