CommutAir Direct Entry Captain

I don't disagree. I've just heard a lot of people say TPIC above all. Now it sounds like there are more considerations.

There were always more considerations. It's just that until recently, most of those other considerations (time in a similar 121 seat, seniority etc) were all being met regardless of if you had 1000 hours tpic or not.

I’m not a fan of DEC (or pseudo DEC) and never have been, but it’s a necessary evil right now in the regionaIs. I wouldn’t do it on a personal level, but that’s me.

I’ve been at C5 for 6 years and trying to get the eff out. Not because the place is awful, but as others have mentioned, our work rules are. We are in negotiations now, but I can’t see the wholesale improvements coming we need. The only thing saving C5 right now is UALs 40% stake and that our performance is good among United’s 50 seat operators (!) The coming slowdown over covid 19 fears/hysteria do not fill me with hope.

For the OP, your seniority will be awful and reserve is awful here. That’s true no matter what seat and what version of C5 you’ve worked at. And it won’t improve quickly, especially since the CPP/Aviate hiring is stopped for the time being.

I’ve had a good run and a good time here at C5, but the shortage and this coronavirus issue, even if over-hyped, causes concern for the future. I’m concerned about moving on right now should the chance come, but I don’t like Commutair’s or any 50 seat operators chances right now.

What happened to getting your 1000 TPIC as quickly as possible? Sounds like everyone is against DEC.

What good is 1000TPIC if you end up eating a bullet right after you get it? I can't imagine a worse hell than commuting to be the plug. Yeah. first world problems.

Another thing to consider is CommutAir also has Captain Qualified FOs. As a junior captain you may be a CQFO for up to a year, but for the last year or so most people have been CQFOs for a much shorter period if at all since movement has been so rapid. The left seat seems to be perpetually short-staffed here so even if you are a CQFO you will probably rarely fly as an FO, but it's something you should be aware of.

The brief time I sat CQF wasn’t terrible. Bouncing between left and right seat was a bit tedious, but it beat flying the couch after upgrade. That was Dash 8 time, things are quite different now.
