Thanks buddy! You know what, the only thing that really sticks out in my mind is a trick I came up with for the power off 180 and short field landings: Use the second centerline dash after the numbers. If you aim for the threshold, power already out, and give it a nice careful flare you should land just after that second dash automatically. This is of course assuming you're in a 172. If for some reason you're still too high/fast, use those 40 degree flaps if you got them (I like to save them as a last resort). I feel like a lot of people think they have to use only the numbers/threshold/500 footers as a landing spot and that's where they get into trouble. 500 feet is way farther than the normal touch down for the average commercial applicant; and touching down on the threshold means a flare over the dirt (with no power for the power off 180). Yeah, no thanks. I personally always set power for the threshold and then touch down just past the numbers. Realizing the relationship between where I was aiming for and where the wheels hit the pavement was what did it for me. Maybe this will help! Hope so!

Meh, I like to have a steeper approach(talking normal landings) and land about 500' down the runway.Just a personal preference though, well, atleast in the 150 I did the maneuvers portion of my training in, the 177RG likes slightly flatter approaches (however, I try to depend on my engine as little as possible). I've always used the 1000' markers for the Power off 180s and the 500' markers for short fields (land inside of both of them on each short/power off 180 landing and you're within PTS on a standard instrument runway). Well isn't it plus 100, minus 0 feet for the short field? I mean it's not exaaaactly like you can land just in the middle of the 500 and 1000 footers. It's always funny to start a conversation about the power off 180 though. Starts a brawl between CFIs every time. Everyone's got their own little theories...so whatever it takes! Good luck, man.

Yep, the 500' TDZE markings are 75' long, so you are within range for a short field. And the 1000' markers are 175' putting you within range for a power off 180
