Commercial Requirements with and without a CFI

Can anyone tell me whether or not i need to bring a CFI with me for the 100 nm VFR cross-country flights (one at day, one at night) requirement? Thank you.

Exactly....but that's what's confusing me. Why is it "20 hours of training" for 10 hours of instrument, 10 hours in a complex, and 2, 2 hour x-country flights? Am i missing something?

just remember, these are "minimums" in all reality, if you have an instrument rating, then you do not need the 10 hrs of instument training, but you will need the rest. To be honest, I don't train a new commercial applicant in less than 30 hrs dual....plus the 10 hrs solo in a single or PICUS in a twin

Unclenobby- excellent point....shouldve known. haha

CessnaDriver- I was under the impression that you could file IFR, but that the flight had to be in VFR conditions (VMC, of course)....is that what you're saying?

Ziggy- roger that. thanks!

No, the regulations changed back in October of 2009. They totally dropped the VFR portion from the cross countries. Look up 61.129 on the FAA, and you'll see that the current regulation may be different than what you are reading in a FAR/AIM

I don't understand your confusion. At least 20 hours of training that includes 10 hours of instrument work, 10 hours in a complex airplane and 2 2-hour cross country flights. Sounds very straightforward. If I do a dual 2-hour night cross country flight in a complex airplane under the hood, I've got 2 hours toward three of those requirements. Maybe I'm missing something?
