And it's never too late to do so! Congratulations on your commercial checkride... if you're like me, you're going to eventually become more interested in the "old-fashioned way" of doing things as you progress in your career. I really enjoy doing it all by paper and using rules of thumb. The oceanic stuff requires plotting charts to be used when 725NM away from ground-based navigation (turbojets), and I've found a better understanding of the world by using dividers and conical projections.
 
I've also been very impressed with iPad in my cockpit. Good to hear that examiner's are open to their use.
 
Congrats, I had my first flight with a student where I was using the ipad yesterday. I managed to find one at Best Buy on Friday and so far I'm loving foreflight
