Comm/CFI certificate transfer?

Scenario:

I have a student with a Canadian PPL who wants an Instrument rating. Does this require that I transfer my FAA issued CFI to a Canadian CFI and how does one go about doing that?

Also, Since I, being an FAA Certified CPL, and can fly an "N-reg" aircraft in canada, I need a Canadian CPL to fly a "C-reg" aircraft there right?

Anyone who has done the transfer, please let me know how you did the FAA-TCCA transfer. Thanks

If he wants an FAA certificate, all the hoops to jump through for a conversion are on his side of the deal.
 
Sorry about the confusion.

It's myunderstanding that the guy has a canadian pilot's license and wishes to have an instrument rating. He is here in the states looking for training. I'm just trying to confirm that I cannot give him training because I'm do not posses a Canadian cert, right? He would have to either transfer his Canadian Cert or get a FAA cert before I could give him training, wouldn't he?

What do the regs say?

61.65
(a) General. A person who applies for an instrument rating must:
(1) Hold at least a private pilot certificate with an airplane, helicopter, or powered-lift rating appropriate to the instrument rating sought;


So I am just guessing that the FAA wants an FAA PPL license. Just FYI, according to the VNY FSDO, it just a simple matter of showing the FSDO a canadian license to have an un-restricted FAA PPL issued. Get him/her to go to the FSDO and handle it themselves. Untill then, your hands are tied. After that, they will need a TSA approval. They are not a US citizen I am assuming.
 
Is it that easy for the FAA to Canadian conversion? Are those canuks more restrictive in their certifications then we are?

Does he want a Canadian instrument rating? If so, then I don't think you can do it unless you're a Canadian-certified instructor. You can take him up in the airplane and fly around all you want, but it probably won't legally count for him.

If he wants an FAA instrument rating, then he just has to get his Canadian license converted.
