Comair?

How is determined which call out?
Crew Scheduling determines which callout to assign you depending on reserve manning. Oh and don't forget ready reserve which is where you'll sit at the airport at the crew facility waiting for crew scheduling to call you if they need someone right away.

I'll add to that. Scheduling doesn't assign your call out. You bid on which call out you want. I always bid for the long call out. That way I can commute in after I get called. It's actually one of my favorite things about this place. I can sit across the country while on reserve and not in a crashpad. JFK call out is 2 hours, btw, simply because its New York and it takes an hour to get anywhere.

How hard is it to get CVG as a base, and what is the callout time on reserves? Thanks!

Its kinda up in the air now. Some new hires are getting CVG, others JFK, and some are bidding to swap domiciles. From what i understand you can get either.....and even if not immediately...you can always bid for what you want and it will come around in good time most likely.

For those interested in Comair, I have been here for two and half years and am not even half way up the FO list for CVG, and upgrades here are nonexistant. A recent vacancy bid for 28 captain spots has been delayed indefinitely, with no explanation other than we'll tell you more next week. This is after recent small upgrade bids have been canceled altogether. The current upgrades range from five to seven years depending base and aircraft. I can't imagine the upgrade time dropping any since we are scheduled lose at least 8 more airplanes next year, and possibly up to 35 or so with Delta's recent announcement.
It is hard for us to hire people when we really have nothing to offer unless you want to live at home in cvg or jfk. Most other regionals have upgrades in half the time of comair, equal or better pay, less time on reserve, and some offer hiring bonuses. Just my experience so far.

I can tell you first hand that they are having a very hard time recruting and especially with people showing up to class. They just recently canceled a class, because only 1 guy showed up. The last class that started this week had 5 people in it.

Good for them. I'm actually kind of glad things didn't work out with them for me. Besides Ralph being a • and rather unprofessional, I'd rather be flying 85-100hrs a month then sitting reserve forever. Honestly I didn't like their attitude. The focus was more on how they fly cool jets then anything else. Not really the kind of thing a Tprop driver cares about. Everything happens for a reason though.

CVG is a much larger, by both #'s of people and seniority- that is a more difficult base to move up quicker.

JFK.....its different. Alot faster moving up. I've only been here a little more than 1 year- and i'm in the top 40% in JFK.

The base makes a difference in your QOL.

.

Explain, I know of a couple -70's to ASA, where are you getting the 35 and from what announcement?

We're not loosing 8 airplanes next year, it's six and they're swaps for the -900s. We've already swapped 8 -200s. Delta will probably park more 50 seaters and replace them with more 70-76 seater a/c.

Well not according to a recent talk in recurrent ground from the vp of flight ops, but he's not overly trustworthy, so maybe you are right.

It takes like forever around here when it comes to getting rid of a/c. A lot goes into returning an aircraft whether it be a swap to another DCI carrier or a lease return. All paperwork has to be in order and every nut an bolt has to be accounted for including the original engines. All MEL's have to be complied with before transfer. If you notice a buch of aircraft sitting outside the CVG Heavy MX hangar, those are ususally aircraft that are being returned or transfered. As far as 50 seaters, A lot of Delta owned -200's have already been returned as they were at the end of their lease or they are or were the 14 that are a one for one swap for the -900's. I think there are only 18 left that are owned by Delta, the rest belong to us and were purchased prior to the Delta aquistion. MX, FlightOps, and Inflight will be the first to know since we are the only ones effected by the loss or gain of aircraft. We have to get them ready for service or return and you guys have to do a dispalcement bid or bid for increase of flying.

Dude you were right! I guess the 8 are not part of the 900 swaps. Straight out of the President's mouth.

I've heard we are loosing 8 planes and 4000 block hrs. of flying by Spring. I guess DL also wants to cut its DCI carriers in half. I wonder who will go?
