Comair low timer training update!

I flew back to CVG today with someone from the training department. Here's how the low timers are doing. Comair just had to lease some sims in YUL due to the ones here being jammed packed. So far the low timers are doing good. Some are having difficulty staying up to speed with the aircraft. The rest are doing extrememly well. Oh and there will be an announcement soon that the hiring times are going to drop again! I know all you low time haters are going to drool all over it!:D I told him about TSA's new hiring mins and his jaw dropped. He's not truly liking the 600 required now.

So far the training here has been pretty good. I think the "Launch" program is a good idea and I actually had a lot of fun. All the people I've met here are pretty nice and enjoy their job. The Sims over at FlightSafety are running non-stop. None of the new-hires are going to YUL, its mostly captain upgrades. Things are certainly looking up for Comair. We are hiring a lot! Word is that upgrade time should be coming down and maybe a new crew domicile, but I guess it all depends what Delta wants to do!? Either way, I enjoy the training and atmosphere here, and I'm looking forward to flying the line. :)

Hey Bubba, that what was told to those that attended the Pilot Career day, that mins were going to drop.(again) You gonna put your App in now?? And don't tell me/us for integrity your going to wait, you got bills to pay you know, if you do decide to apply, hit a home run!!! :)

I was told that jfk is around 2-3 months then you hold a line, thats were all new hires are going right now anyway... cvg about a year. +-

According to the Senior Analyst, we were told yesterday that it would be around 8 months to hold a line in JFK right now, but who knows. Reserve in CVG is probably a year. Also, I guess over 90% of people based at JFK commute.

Hahahaha!:laff: No I'm not going to apply. For three reasons. 1. I don't have my commercial...at least until the end of May. My wife is in between jobs right now, so money is tight. 2. No multi! and 3. I want to be ready to do it. I've been out of flying for almost a year. When I get my CSEL, muti and get my head back in the game, maybe I'll be ready. I do have the Comair FSM for the CRJ-100/200 and the 700 on disc and I have the sim syllibus, so I do have a leg up on everyone else when it comes time!;)

Okay, I see. Well, when things change,if possible, I would go to Skymates located in Arlington, Texas, Not to sound like an Ad for them, but man, they work!! I am glad to see you are still pursuing your dream, and having a family to support and trying to do this at the same time, my hats off to you!!!!

food for thought....bubba's job now might be better paying than if he were to start Comair anytime soon...hahaha :P

I mean, if McD's workers are making more bank, i can imagine anyone else's job is as well.

You talk about getting hired at the right time. After I finished IOE back in Sept/Oct. JFK was so junior. I had a line after being there for 1 month. Now it's up to 8 months, geez. I transfered to MCO and will be on reserve until we get a new President. Well at least I don't have to commute. UND how's it going????

Yeah, I don't know about the whole 8 month reserve in JFK. I certainly hope it won't be that long. Some people have been saying it is more like 2-3 months. I guess we'll see soon.

Actually I am making more than an FO on reserve. I'm pulling in about $1,050 every two weeks. Though Nona has been telling me to go for it. when I have the hours. I have 400. I just need severel hundred more hours and some multi. If I had the required multi when Comair drops down to 300, I'd keep my emplyee number and company seniority and get preferential hiring. It actually just be a transfer within the company.

I have been based in CVG with Comair for two years now and am not even close to holding a line. I am guessing at least 2.5 years for a line here, assuming things don't get better or worse. I believe GSO is comaparbale to CVG. JFK is probably less than year right now, and as for MCO you might upgrade to captain in JFK quicker than you get off reserve as an FO in MCO.
Good Luck to everyone coming to Comair, You will work with very nice people, unfortunately things don't look to be improving any time soon.

So Bubba, any news on when they are going to drop to 300tt? What about the Multi? I hear its' going to be soon.........

Does Comair feel any pressure now that PSA has gone to thier mins?

They're suppossed to announce the new mins here in a couple of weeks. As far as multi, I would bet on 50 multi. I would be very surprised to see anything lower. I think Comair needs 400 pilots for this year to replace the 352 that left last year. If Delta doesn't kick us to the curb and we get 40% of the new aircraft this year, they'll kick it up a lot more. With the crash in LEX still fresh in the FAA's minds, I don't think Comair wants to follow suit with PSA and TSA.

How many hours have you gotten in the logbook since being on reserves?

Prior to the new contract reserve pilots would fly alot. I think in two years I have had three, maybe four reserve days where I have not been used. Under the new the new system the company is doing everything they can to limit reserves to 74 hours, making sure we do not break guarantee.
Reserves will likely still be used everyday available the difference will be the assignments will be very unproductive, just as all the trips are for all pilots at comair right now.
