You should try to get a medical first to see if you can pass that. Given that you spelled color as "colour" are you from the UK? Perhaps they have different standards.

My advice here is that you do not try to get the medical first as previously suggested. You need to find out what the requirements for a First Class Medical are in New Zealand, Australia, and in the UK ( as many of you Kiwi pilots end up there ). Find out if there are any waivers available for your level of deficiency. Find out what Air New Zealand's requirements are as well as any other carrier you may have your sights set on as their level may differ from the regulatory body. Then go see an eye doctor and see where you stand in regards to the requirements that you may need to attain. Find out also if you can pass the waiver tests such as the Lantern test.

Do not do this while undergoing an official aviation medical because then it will be on your record permanently. You do not want that to happen until you know where stand and how you can get waivers or, if necessary, bend the results in your favour.
