The Collings Foundation is proposing to put a Thud back in the air. And once again, it is not money that may ground the project. The Briefing is dated 29APR so the decision may have already been made.

Is the Hill AFB marked 105 shown in the article the one they want to get flying? Looks like it may be an old static display bird, judging by the blacked out canopy. Either way, talk about an endeavor thats not only going to be challenging to get flying, but to maintain. It'd be awesome to get a 105 flying.

Of course, I'm surprise they're allowed to keep their F-4 flying, what with all the govt regs. At least with the F-4, there's still a good spares source around at the boneyard. Not so much with the 105 anymore.

Don't know. I was at Addison earlier this year and there was a Thud on the Cavanaugh ramp albeit in very rough condition. Here it is in a long shot.

Lots of Thuds on plinths.

And yes, in a way it is surprising that there are a few F-4s flying but then go look at the FAA registry and you find Mirages, MiGs, Saabs.. why not some of our own stuff?

Collings F-4 and A-4 barely fly due to funding or lack thereof. How are they going to be able to pull this off?

I know there's some red tape BS going on concerning spares for their F-4. The USAF seems really against anyone but them flying these airplanes right now.

In England, they celebrate their old aircraft. Here our arms (Navy, USAF) seem to do everything they can to keep them OUT of the air. One has to wonder if the military played up the history angle if it would complement the recruiting efforts of the Blues and the Birds.
