As an airline pilot, at the absolute minimum, you're back in school at least once per year. Most of your time isn't specifically flying the sim or working on procedures, but hours of Ops Specs, legal issues, time wasters like "Lee High Ri-Low" and "But/For rules" and touchy-feelie topics.

If you don't have the ability to quickly learn hoardes of material and not a self-starter, this profession is going to be an eye opener.

Don't understand what a diode is? No time to teach you, but you'd better pick it up magically so you understand the discussion on the electrical system. Test is in the morning! Sink or swim! :)
 
If you want to fly for fun do it, if you want to fly for a career do it. if you want to fly to make the big money, find a new career choice. simple as that.

it sounds like from your posts that you want to get into any profession as long as you can become rich, i am sorry, but that is not how you pick a career. you pick a career based on passion for the choice, not for the money, if you truely love it, whatever compensation you get is the added bonus for not HATING every second you are at work.

No, I quit and I'm now working at CVS/Pharmacy.


The pay is not my own, but of a regional 1st year FO. It's for an economics project. I managed to get the basic stuff but I couldn't even afford to buy a car.

... and not just that, but without having to work hard either. This isn't the way the real world works unless Pops is Daddy Warbucks.

To get to the majors, you will have invested at least $30,000+ to get your ratings, to work as a flight instructor for a year or three building time while bringing in a whopping $10,000 - $25,000 give or take, to get on with a regional airline making approx. $20,000-$35,000 for years ... while living off of those wages AND attempting to pay back the loans you took out for the ratings. ... or you went to Gulfstream and get denied jumpseat opportunities because the pilot community thinks you're the lowest form of life ... which would be the way to go since you're looking for the easiest way into an airline cockpit :whatever:

People shouldn't get into this business cause the money is good. It can be there is no guarantee of that. If 100K is what you consider "big bucks", then fine, but it will take you 20 years from now until you make that. How's that sound?

By the way, I bet most cropdusters make at least 5th year regional Capt pay. I've heard stories of guys making 100K and working half the year. You dissin' on cropdusters reminds me of the Geico commercial where the guy disses ape's and has to buy the classy ape's dinner in a fancy cafe.

Really, I think the guys that are happiest in this career are those who were just born into flying. They have the gene. If you wouldn't be happy just being a "Joe Schmoe" pilot, then you should look elsewhere.
 
cropdusting would be awesome i would love to do it, low level aerobatics :D in fairly high performance aircraft, sounds like a blast to me :D
