Colgan Training??

Hello, I am on day 7 at training for Colgan. Just got done with the indoc test and now off to systems. I am hoping that anyone that had worked for colgan or who works for colgan could give me some good advice on the systems portion and everthing else thats to come. I am training for the Saab by the way. Also if anyone could tell me my probability of getting IAH for my base right out of training with the amount of FO's in houston, etc... I would appreciate anything, kinda nervous since this is my first 121 operations, but ready to work hard for it. Thanks

I was asking the same questions not too long ago. There are plenty of Colgan SAAB guys here so Jetcareers is a wealth of Colgan knowledge as well as SAAB minds.

SAAB systems are difficult but can be done. As long as you study and truly want to learn them, you will. Listen carefully in class.

If there is one peice of advice I can give, it is to LISTEN. If you stop listening for just 5 seconds you will be lost. I'm deadly serious. Write down the information and then try to understand it later. But keep up, the class will leave you at the gate quickly if you're not up to speed.

IAH- I'm not too sure about. Anywhere in the northeast you would prob get. I know in Ithaca we have 2 FO's and 4 lines. Go figure. Same thing in Binghamton from what I understand.

On a positive side- The Ithaca morning line is 88 hours of credit with 17 days off, luckily thats the line I got.
 
How many people do you know of that have gone thru training that have washed out. I am planning on listening and studying, just still nervous about it. Is the systems test pretty hard? Also I picked Ithaca as my 3rd choice just cause it being a college town and all, anyways after you were all done with training did you look back and say to yourself... "It wasn't that bad?" Thanks again for your input and I am sure I will be back with more questions. Thanks
 
listen to Vic. He is to the saab, what yoda was to the force. Don't slack off in systems. The saab is old school and not the easiest airplane to learn. No idea on the bases bro. CHO may be coming up for some of your classmates. We had 3 FO's leave for upgrade on tuesday. good luck

If people are going to wash out, they're going to wash out in the sim.

With that being said- When I was just getting started in ground school people were saying "121 ground school will be the hardest thing you will ever do, the SAAB sim is soooo hard".

Honestly, I thought ground school was cake and I thought the SAAB sim was a joke. That is either because I got lucky, or just because im awesome. You pick.

The SAAB is heavy though. There are a few females that have trouble physically handling the aircraft.

Who is teaching your ground school?
 
The training department at Colgan WILL get you through as long as you cooperate, graduate.

Listen to your instructors and you will have no problems!

Either I got unlucky or I'm not so awesome, hehe.

I found the training kept getting progressively more difficult. Indoc wasn't bad at all, systems was real tough and sim was a step beyond that. In systems it's true you gotta pay attention through it all. I slacked off for not long at all and I was lost until we changed subjects. There is a ton of information and you have to cram it all in. I think it is about a week from what I remember and some days you cover two to three systems. As far as houston we just had a couple fo's upgrade down here so you might get it right out of training. Most are put in the northeast to start with, but you should be able to get down here soon. Let me know if you have any more questions.
 
Thanks for the info! Are instructor is Ed Yarid. He is new I guess to the training dept. I will give it my all. I figured since Chuck said there is a 97% pass rate right now, that if you try your best they will work with you and get ya thru. Hopefully they give you second chances you know. Or they just kick you butt out. Also what kind of questions are going to be on the systems test? Like if this problem occurs you need to do this? Or is more specific on the systems for instanst, What type of hyd system do we have? I don't know I think I should be ok, I never failed a faa checkride for all my ratings and never failed a written test either. Thats funny that you said that women sometimes have a problem controlling the plane, cause there was a capt from the saabs upgrading to the q and she had said that is was hard controls. Anyways... My (old girlfriend) would agree whole heartedly.... in my own words...... they have a knack for building cars and girls..... nuff' said.
