Colgan (Pinnacle?) Strategic Plan 2012!!!11

I was told the DTW asst chief was formerly a checkairman at 9E.

Yep, and he was also the former First Officer Rep before he left to go to United. He got furloughed and was lucky to get the job as ACP in DTW right away. And unlike other management pilots, he flies the line as an FO, which is what his seniority can hold.

Hmm... But are these the same management pilots that do PT/PCs and sim sessions? I guess I know at my company, or so I thought, those whom are sim instructors are all Captain Qualified and thus it is sort of an incentive for offering to take that role on.... And thus you also are needed to do some flying from time to time as part of your salary which may be in either seat.... Although I am pretty sure everyone in the training department now at PSA are all able to hold Captain.... Perhaps others can comment on how their airlines operate about this very issue.....

We have two "lists" of sim instructors, too. Some are on the seniority list, some are not. The ones that are were CAs BEFORE they were sim instructors. In fact, they're check airman. We don't have any "FO" sim instructors. The "pro instructors" are CA qualified, yes, but they aren't seniority list pilots. The CP (Director of Flying, whatever) WAS one of these pro instructors. He was only added to the seniority list when he got the CP position. There are several guys that WERE CAs that were displaced that are SENIOR to the CP, and they're flying as FOs. As Todd pointed out, the ACP in DTW flies as an FO. For the record, I'd swap our MEM base management in less than a heartbeat for DTW's base management, but I digress.

Now, I've got no problem with him flying to maintain currency, but he should be flying in the seat he can hold seniority wise.

Ok so you all do it totally different then us.... :) Makes more sense after you explained it.... Ours, I believe, all were hired as pilots and thus always have been on the seniority... And took on the extra work of being a sim instructor.

That's the way it SHOULD be. If we did it that way, we likely wouldn't have had 30 CAs displaced. The driving force of the displacement wasn't really block hours, it was the company going with LOFTs rather than PCs so pro sim instructors could do it rather than buying people off the line.
