Colgan (again)

Seggy,

what i want to know is why they are hiring so many. We are short on FO's, but not that short. Colgan runs pretty lean on crews as opposed to other airlines. I'd say on average we have 4 crews per plane. Some other regionals and majors run 7-10 crews per plane. Are they looking to get to the 7-10 crews, or are they really going to be adding some planes? I know attrition is sorta bad right now, but we aren't losing 10 a month. I'd like to believe that some of the expansion rumors are true, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It sure as heck would help upgrade!

What type of expansion? It would be nice if they actually started to do overnights, they would get a happier pilot group.

So, what is the typical schedule at Colgan? Say you are based in ALB, would you fly ALB-LGA back and forth every day?!?

They would? I thought it would be nice to always be in the same town (same bed) everynight.

A lot of the guys I've talked to, who haven't been from Colgan's cities, actually want the "airline" life.

Me being from Upstate NY, I would prefer somewhere other than Colgan, but I'd take it without hesitation.

I'm from ROC so to me it would be a great transition. I hope I can have my time at years end and hope that Colgan still needs pilots.

With regionals hiring pilot to fly jets with 50 multi such as Comair I wonder why would people wanna go for colgan to fly most probably 1900's. I hope they will make them lower their min.

Whats wrong with the 1900?

Comair might be out of business in two months.

I have heard they are looking at as many as thirty airplanes. THIRTY! We are down thirteen FOs together, so the hiring of forty gives us 27 extras around the system. They are also thinking of offering a transition for Beech FOs to the right seat of the Saab. They are slowly taking the Beeches away. I think that if Big Sky doesn't shape up out of Boston for Delta we will have our fourth codeshare. We were the second bidder there. We will hear something about expansion in the next few months I would bet,

What type of expansion? It would be nice if they actually started to do overnights, they would get a happier pilot group.

You are wrong. People come to Colgan knowing that they will be home everynight. If you live in base you have an EXCELLENT QOL at Colgan. I would venture the best in the industry (if you live in base), at a major OR regional. Some senior guys in bases have 18-20 days off a month.

Yep

Depends on a variety of factors, that include MX, Weather, Crew Issues, and the moon. Today I was suppose to fly two hours, but ended up doing 7:05 with a 9:30 Pay Credit. Very rarely are two days the same here!

I don't disagree that some people are happy. I'm talking about the people who WANT overnights and the so called "airline pilot life".

I'm from ITH, and all I ever wanted to do was fly the Saab for CJC. After reading the horror stories on APC, I've thought twice.

What is the deal with flying a 16 hour duty day, then having to ferry an airplane to HEF part 91? Management really take advantage of pilots like that?

Who posted that Saabrowski?

Bed bugs, half-made hotel rooms and "Airport Hotel Itch"? Eww!

Chuck Colgan Jr e-mailed me. I called him back but have not heard from him. I will be at the fair in Dallas. I have 930/100 and get about 5 hours a day.

How firm is 100ME? I have 35ME and was thinking of applying for the heck of it.

What are the chances of getting HEF? What are the schedules at HEF like?
