Coffee Pots!

Well, looks like the coffee pots need a good cleaning, and it seems as if the salt and ice really hasn't been working too well. Any suggestions?

Baking soda removes coffee stains from glass pots. Make a paste by mixing it with water, wipe it down, then use a clean paper towel to remove the excess paste, and another one with just water. Hope it works!

The Hawker has a monthly maintenance item that includes sanitizing the galley water system with one round of bleach and one round of baking soda (to neutralize the bleach). Maybe something similar for a coffee pot?

I can try to find out the concentrations if you need. I'd assume it's probably 50/50.

Salad master surface cleaner for SS. This stuff is pure magic on stainless steel. You sprinkle it on the coffee pot that is damp (not soaking) and then rub it in circular motions with a lightly damp paper towel and rinse out with warm water.

You would not believe the stains and messes it takes out of cookware with very little effort and it is not abrasive.

WOW, S! I NEVER would have guessed you are a little Suzie Homemaker! :p :D

BTW, Hope you're well! :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I might try the salad cleaner thing. Problem with the pots is that the heaters just bake the coffee into the pot so we have some residue that almost needs to be scrubbed off. I'll have to see if I can get my hand into the pot without it getting stuck to scrub it.

That is exactly what it is for. It will scrub the burnt coffee right off the bottom with minimal effort. The powder is a mild abrasive that does the scrubbing.

And Q...I am mildly domesticated, I cant cook anything but im pretty good at cleaning. I suppose when you run around enough years with an automatic rifle you feel secure enough in your manliness to throw some gloves on and do the dishes.

Running a solution of clean water and vinegar (50/50) will clean a coffee pot rather nicely. Smells bad while it's happening, but works great. Low-tech.

Automatic Dishwasher powder. Put in coffee pot. Add warm water. Wait overnight.

The coffee pot will look like new. Works on steel too.

Whenever you're cleaning, or even rinsing them, make sure to push the button and run some water or whatever through the spout. If you don't, at least on some of the Bombardier ones, the button on the spout will eventually start to stick (in, of course). And Murphy won't allow it to happen while you're bored in cruise. Oh no... it'll be when you're descending through 12,000 into a major class B airport during a push. The passenger who ignorned the seat belt sign and was up getting coffee will wait until their cup has been overflowing for a few seconds before they frantically tap you on the shoulder, point to the cascading coffee that is going everywhere, and shrug. So in between radio calls, reading checklists, and typing in the box like a madman because ATC can't make up their mind, you'll get the pleasure of a piping hot coffee bath as you reach back and yank out the pot so you can stand it on it's end behind your seat and stop the mayhem. Ask me how I know... :cwm27:

Carb cleaner!

Just don't spray it on anything painted, wood, plastic, leather, or anything with a pulse.

When I had to clean them years ago, grocery stores sold a product to clean coffee pots. It came in an Arm & Hammer baking soda sized box. I would put it the coffee pot in the afternoon with hot water. Next morning it was spotless.

Whish I could remember the name.

LOL! I can attest to those coffee pots that come off the planes. I got a guy on my 3rd shift that will clean the crap out of those pots. He enjoys doing it too.
