hello,
heres my question, I was looking at airliners.net and i started to wonder how to pilots get in and out of commercail airplanes? I know how it is done in a small plane, cause i've flown one. But heres the link to what i was looking at, looks like they have to climb over all that stuff in the middle http://www.airliners.net/open.file/661305/L/

Pilots are special people. We detach our legs at the knees, hoist ourselves over the console, then reattach the bottom portion of our legs so we can work the rudders. Something we don't let the general public in on, so don't let this leave jetcareers.

Or you could go with Nick's explanation. Much more boring, though, in my opinion.

I guess that's why one shouldn't repeat second hand "knowledge". Someone on here a while ago was talking about how "flightdeck" is the proper term these days, I guesss that I took it to be true. .....Puts foot in mouth....

Thanks for the info, MQAA.

rv7, I also thought that the flight deck was now the "politically correct" way of referring to the cockpit. That's what I've typically heard on PA announcements. "Goooooood afternoon, ladies and gentleman, from the flight deck."

Yeah, just don't tell "Old School Doug," we'll let him keep on referring to it as a "cockpit." One day he'll get hip to the new terminology...one day.

Yes. Little does he know that when he says "Gooooood afternoon, ladies and gentleman, from the cockpit", the women in the cabin are sitting with mouths agape in shock, thinking "I can't believe he just said that!" and covering their children's ears.

Common terminology is beginning to lean towards 'flightdeck'. Though really I don't personally know of anyone who is insulted if they hear the word 'cockpit'.

It's the little room in the front of the plane where the pilots sit, but that's not important right now.

Try the veal, it's great! Let's have a round of applause for your cocktail waitresses? Aren't they great?

man am i toasted (tired not drunk) i read that as "lets have a round of applesauce for your waitress"

and i was like...huh? WTFO?

Pork Chops...and applesauuuuce.

Probably too young to know the reference!
