As of today I am medically cleared to fly again!:D:nana2: I grounded myself in May 2009 for sleep apnea. I got my special issuance this morning after completing a maintenance of wakefullness test last week! Now I just need a BFR/IPC and I'm back to finishing up my commercial.

Congrats man!

Having worked for a sleep doctor for a year I know that far too many people have sleep apnea and do nothing about it. It's good that you took care of this early in your career and it won't ground later on when it would cost you a lot of money!

Good to hear Howard.

I didn't even know you were having such trouble. Guess I need to stay in the loop a bit more.

Congrats Hubba! I as well went through that entire process a few years ago after having surgery for the sleep apnea. I completed the MWT twice and after passing that both times with a year in between, the FAA notified me that I was no longer required to take the test anymore.

A word of advice. When you go back to do the test next time your insurance may deny payment. The reason for this is that the medical billing code is the same for the MWT and the Narcolepsy test. They denied payment to me twice claiming that a Narcolepsy test was not medically necessary for OSA. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you, but if it does, send them your paperwork from the FAA which shows you need the test and then also remind them of the billing codes. Hopefully they have that ironed out now.

Congrats on the test! That is one of the most boring things I have ever done. PM me if you have any questions. Who is your AME? Dr. Villegas is very well versed on the entire process and he did everything for me.

Dr. Villegas as well. Really nice guy!:) We spent a little extra time talking Navy shop talk, which was cool.

Guys, thanks for all the support!:) It's been a pretty stressful and turbulent year in my life and at work, and this came at just the right time!
