"Cleared direct Lubbock."

I've heard rumors that the FAA is slowly renaming VORs that are not collocated with their respective airport. Has anybody else heard anything like this?

Yes I have heard the same thing. Manchester (MHT) is one of the ones on the list to be changed.

Yep - they are - it's just obvious they haven't done it all yet. :rawk:

I've given this exact clearance more times than I can count.

More often than not, that departure reads ...LBB LBB... I would read that clearance to you as, "direct lubbock VOR, direct Lubbock."

If your route says LBB LBB and you are cleared "direct lubbock," it's to the VOR, not the airport.

Im in the minority here, but anytime i get cleared direct, i go to the field, unless the controller states XXX VOR. I might have just gotten lucky, but it seems most of the time they always differentiate.

What about a field with an NDB, and no VOR? if they said cleared direct DFW (assuming it had an NDB) would think you would ly to the NDM or the field?
