Classy move by JetBlue

Well I guess that's definitely two airlines @DeltaAlphaNovember won't apply to. You're probably better off flying for Qatar, Etihad, or Emirates since you've clearly told us you don't have interest in carriers that share your values (hint: all US airlines).

The scary thing is that he could apply and get hired because he isn't stupid enough to say to the recruiter "Man I sure do disagree with the choice to be gay. You don't hire the gays, do ya?"

Don't forget Allegiant. He is entitled to think what he wants, and stir the pot because he can. JetBlue isn't for everyone, not sure about Allegiant, and what identity Alaska Airlines will take on.

I don't know who he is on here, but nothing online is anonymous.

@Derg how small is this industry? Just curious.

Tragically small.

Do you know when I used to preach about being nice to people online because you never know when you'll run into that person on the other side of the interview table?

Oh that's happened. Far, far too often.

How is this even an issue? One of my great friends put it in the best way possible. "Hey man, you do you." Whatever anyone else has no bearing on me. Enjoy life. Be happy with what you do. I may not want to do what you enjoy, but as long as you like it, more power to you.

Yup. At my last shop I gave a pilot interview to a guy who had been my boss at a flight school. You never, ever know.

Well, you do know one thing. No matter what we are only 2 or 3 degrees separated from each other. It's not 6 degrees of separation in this industry. So if ya pee in someone's cornflakes, chances are someone important is going to hear the story.

Touching story about a grandmother who used JetBlue benefits to fly down to Orlando for her Grandson's funeral and a very kind act by both JetBlue and the passengers on that flight. It is so wonderful how there are so many random people who will offer love and support to complete strangers. There are good people out there with wonderful hearts.

Below is a picture of Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo. Omar, as his friends and family called him, was a Latino man gunned down at an LGBTQ bar in Orlando last weekend. He was 20-years-old.

Today my dear friend Melinda and I had the sad privilege of attending to his grandmother on our flight as she made her journey to Orlando to join her family during this unspeakable time.

Knowing she was making this hard journey alone, JetBlue employees made sure to be at her side every step of the way. Melinda stood quietly by her wheelchair while we waited until it was time to board. Kellie, the gate agent, boarded with her and helped get her settled. Melinda and I gave her a blanket, a pillow, a box of tissues and water so she could be as comfortable as possible. She was understandably distraught, but met us with kindness and gentleness. And gratitude.

But here's where our flight got truly inspiring. I had the idea to pass around a piece of paper to everyone on board and invite them to sign it for this grieving grandmother. I talked it over with Melinda and she started the process from the back of the plane. As we took beverage orders, we whispered a heads up about the plan as we went.

Halfway through, Melinda called me, "Kel, I think you should start another paper from the front. Folks are writing PARAGRAPHS." So I did. Then we started one in the middle. Lastly, running out of time on our hour and fifteen minute flight, we handed out pieces of paper to everyone still waiting.

When we gathered them together to present them to her, we didn't have just a sheet of paper covered in names, which is what I had envisioned. Instead, we had page after page after page after page of long messages offering condolences, peace, love and support. There were even a couple of cash donations, and more than a few tears.

When we landed, I made an announcement that the company had emailed to us earlier in the morning to use as an optional addition to our normal landing announcement, which states "JetBlue stands with Orlando." Then with her permission and at the request of a couple of passengers, we offered a moment of silence in Omar's memory.

As we deplaned, EVERY SINGLE PERSON STOPPED TO OFFER HER THEIR CONDOLENCES. Some just said they were sorry, some touched her hand, some hugged her, some cried with her. But every single person stopped to speak to her, and not a single person was impatient at the slower deplaning process.

I am moved to tears yet again as I struggle to put our experience into words. In spite of a few hateful, broken human beings in this world who can all too easily legally get their hands on mass assault weapons - people ARE kind. People DO care. And through our customers' humanity today, and through the generosity of this wonderful company I am so grateful to work for, I am hopeful that someday soon we can rally together to make the world a safer place for all.

I will never forget today. ‪#‎Orlandoproud‬

We have over 10 crew members directly impacted by this event. (Sorry I don't know the exact count.) There is a vigil being held on Sunday.

I can imagine a lot of crew members would be affected with so many being located in Orlando. The banner is very impressive. I am sure you liked JetBlue before all of this, but it has to feel good to work for a company that has really gone above and beyond with all of their support. Not only are they creating more loyal passengers, but more loyal employees regardless of their role in the company.

Delta is offering free flights for immediate family members and designated loved ones of the deceased and injured. In addition, Delta Cargo is coordinating with local funeral homes and Eagle’s Wings to waive all Delta transportation fees for the deceased. Delta teams are assessing situations individually to meet the needs for those affected by the tragedy.

Thanks for posting. :D Great move by Delta. They didn't have it on their FB page or any other media outlet. Even others in this thread didn't see it, as we added the airlines as we all saw information about it. JetBlue was the first one out of the gate, so they are getting all of the positive press. The first article that comes up on Google about it was posted June 16th, after this thread was pretty much done. Point is, if you are going to do something amazing, do it day one.

Wow, just WOW.

How is the information gathering going?

Has your attitude improved yet? How is it that you are always so grumpy? It is a huge conundrum. What do you have to be so unhappy and negative about? This thread was about good and positive things in the face of an enormous tragedy, and yet you will always find ways to change that. Why not stick to the political threads that seem to be your favorite where you can gripe about the politics behind this event?
