Classy move by JetBlue

Let me meet you halfway. You're saying pilot that matches my ethnic demographic, as a relative "whole", speak disparagingly of other ethnic demographics when amongst one another?

I've been a brown guy for… lemme see… almost 46 years and you are incorrect. I'm more than open to opposing information (not "I think"), but without secret camera footage, I think you're making a grand mischaracterization.

No...I'm not talking pilots necessarily. In my almost 40 years living in a large NorthEastern metropolis, I haven't found brown people as a whole to speak any better or worse of people than other folk.

Here's the fissure in the two messages I think we're trying to communicate.

I think you're presuming that I meant "caucasians", where I did not. My spidey sense spikes when someone says something homophobic, I wonder what they're saying about me behind my back. To extrapolate, it might be my ethnicity, 'those crazy Californians/Arizonans', or what they'd say about a fellow female pilot.

I do not give anyone a free pass.

Besides, it's 2016.

So true. It is 2016, and we should all know better by now when it comes to singling out any demographics or voicing stereotypes. It isn't about being PC, it is just about being a decent human being. I am happy to be a female and a Californian/Arizonan. :p

I follow you, I'd be wondering too in the cockpit.

My point was more outside the cockpit.

I just want the guacamole. :D

Have you considered the possibility that this is somewhat self selecting? People can tell pretty quickly how comfortable you are or are not with their uh "openness".

I don't think any of my gay friends were sitting around drinking beer one day and thought, "Hey, you know, wife, kids, comfortable suburban lifestyle… I think I'll volunteer myself to be seen a pariah in some circles of culture, lose parts of my family, get discriminated against both openly and systematically, that sounds great! I'm gonna try out the gay thing!"

Whenever I hear something homophobic, my first thought is, "Man, what's he say about brown folks when I'm not around?"

I have a belly full of free barbecue but now I want tacos.

Just saw that Alaska Airlines also is offering free flights...a little late to the game, but kudos.

By Andy Riffle, Chad Gabagat and Kevin Larson, Alaska Airlines GLOBE employee group

As employees of Alaska Airlines, with a collective 30 years between us, we’ve always been proud to work for a company that is committed to supporting the communities it serves.

As the leaders of GLOBE, Alaska’s resource group for LGBT employees and supporters, we truly believe this philosophy is ingrained in our company’s DNA, from airport customer service agent to CEO.

We are broken-hearted by the horrific events that unfolded in Orlando early Sunday. Over the past few days, we’ve heard from many of our fellow employees – both GLOBE members and not – that they too have been deeply affected by the attack and want to know what they can do to help.

Today, we’re proud to share that Alaska Airlines will provide free air travel on Alaska for the immediate family members of those killed or injured in the Orlando shooting, as well as spouses or domestic partners of the victims and their immediate families.

If you fall into one of the above categories and need to book travel to Orlando, call 1-888-327-2755 for assistance. Alaska Airlines serves Orlando from Seattle and San Diego.

Additionally, our company is making a $25,000 contribution to the OneOrlando fund, a project of Strengthen Orlando, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. This organization is local to Orlando and is best-positioned to take care of families who need support and care while they work through this challenging time in the Orlando area.

If you are like us and eager to do something to show your support for Orlando and the people affected by this horrific event, you can make a contribution to the OneOrlando fund at www.oneorlando.org.

We are also encouraging our fellow Alaska and Horizon Air employees to donate through our employee giving program for matching eligible funds.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and their families, and the greater LGBT community. From all of us at Alaska Airlines, we stand by you and will always believe that love conquers hate.

Sincerely,

Andy Riffle – GLOBE President

Chad Gabagat – GLOBE Vice President

Kevin Larson – GLOBE Vice President

No memes.

Only a simple...

Good.

Ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, peach cobbler, baked beans, cole slaw, yes.

If you were a DTW-based submarine commander, you'd have dined like a king down in the lounge.

... Our free lunch wasn't anything like THAT for our 100 days CCF completion factor... Mainline>DCI yet again!

But more seriously, I'm glad @PhilosopherPilot is on here to articulate properly how I support the LGBT community. Kudos

Thank you. I think I took those comments a little more to heart this morning because I live in Orlando, and I've been watching the fallout up close and personal this week. This is something I probably wouldn't post about on here normally, but I felt compelled to speak up today.

Nothing has ever stopped me before. lol Just go for it. It's important to live the courage of our convictions and to support those who need it. I thought your words were wonderful, appropriate and true. I was glad you did speak up.
