Class E

Okay so I know it starts up again at FL600, but how high does it go? Is the rest of the universe considered class E? Is there an inter-galactic ADIZ out there somewhere?

It's not written anywhere, that I know of. But you're right, at FL600 and above, that's Class E airspace. And legally speaking, an SR-71 or U-2 can cancel IFR and resume VFR when leaving Class A airspace climbing out of FL600. We have one U-2 guy that that used to fly with us, who had center give him the "squawk 1200, radar service terminiated" gig. Of course, he was only switching to military control agency. But in theory, he can fly around all day VFR up there. And even though there's really no weather to speak of, cloud clearances (if there were any clouds) would still apply, as would the rest of the VFR stuff. Weird, huh?
