Clarity Aloft headset, anyone use one?

Plantronics MS50 with custom ear mold works very well. You can get a second mold for your other ear if you prefer. Cheap, light, and good sound quality. Good sound isolation with the ear mold, too.

Do you know where it's made? The Clarity Aloft is made in Chicago. Wanted some made here in the USA. Thanks for the heads up I'll poke around about it as well.

For everyone who has the Clarity how is the noise attenuation? I like it QUIET, ie ear plugs with david clarks on quiet.

I found a company a few years ago that would do this, but i am not able to find it again.
Which one are you using?
The company i am looking for is actually making their own headset. Pretty much like the Clarity.

You are maybe thinking of L2K Technologies. I think they are out of business. Try Velocity Squared, based in Alabama. They make the same kind of ear molds.

To wrap this up I went with the Bose X's as long as my company will allow it to be bought from a private individual, we'll find out on Monday. $400 shipped was a good deal as I could sell it for close to that on ebay, so very little money lost if I do end up selling it. Which I probably won't. Like the DC 13.4's they most likely will be a lifetime keeper.

Your company tells you where you can buy your headsets from? lol

I tried the TSO'd version of the Clarity Aloft (required per the FOM) and I returned it after a trip. It was uncomfortable for me, and I think the non-TSO'd version is a much better headset, but alas I can't use it.

I just picked up a set of Telex 5x5's and I'm going to get a set of custom ear molds for them, I'll let you know how that goes.
Since we fly the same equipment, let me know how that goes too. The Jungle Jet is not quiet in front, I have noticed.

I also have to use a TSO'd headset. I'd prefer something that is passive (ear molds are cool).

The 200 is loud as well above about 290-300kts. Using two ear molds and they are extremely comfortable and I barely notice anymore wind noise or avionics fan/electronic noise.

The QT Halo is made in Florida. :-)

And, fwiw, it's substantially quieter than my Bose X was. I suspect that is because the Bose ANR was designed to cancel low frequency noise whereas the vast majority of noise we fly with is higher frequency wind noise. Either way, it's light, comfortable, and - in the summer - cool. As a plus it's not rubbing off what little peach-fuzz remains on the top of my noggin.

The true test of headsets comes at low altitude and high speed. Everything is nice and quiet at FL450 and .80 - but 320 knots down low makes a racket.

I am seriously considering going to a Jerry Harvey (founder of Ultimate Ears, who now runs his own show at jhaudio.com) in ear headset. Yes, they are made in the USA, but no, they are not cheap :) Yes, they also should sound absolutely amazing.

That HALO was what I had seen before, but couldn't find it again. At $359 that is an awesome price. The Bose X cost me $400 but my company approved buying it from a private individual so they will expense $300 so $100 out of my pocket. I looked on eBay and they are going for around $400 so worst case is I sell it for about what I have into it and try that HALO out.

They are also out of production, which makes them really dang hard to get, since you can't really pick up a used one....

Hopefully he starts it up again, cause it seemed like a really interesting option....

Oh also wanted to say I have worn earplugs with the Bose X. Now, that is quiet. Nice to have the option if needed. Where as with the in-ear headset you *must* put it in your ears all the time. However, that is balanced by their incredible weight (very light). Pros and cons. At this point I've been using a DC 13.4 for the past 2 months and it honestly hasn't bothered me much.

If you get the custom earmolds, you don't have to jam them in your ears like you would earplugs. They simply fill in the opening of the ear.

While the custom earmolds do fit exactly into your ear. My problem was always that there was no positive pressure to keep them in direct contact with the ear (all the way around). The result is that they pull out just enough to leave a small gap which lets in all the noise, totally defeating the purpose. Ultimately, I took them off and now just use clarity earplugs with my telex 5x5. This is a REALLY cheap way of getting great noise reduction.

Does anyone know if the HALO ear tips will fit the clarity aloft?? Or any other generic tips that fit it? This is my only complaint about the headset.. every time I go to buy new tips the price goes up.. freakin $4 a pair is getting to be a bit ridiculous for something that costs .05 to make..

If that happens with this headset that I'm rigging up, I'm buying a freakin' Lightspeed Zulu to carry around at work.

No, and unfortunately the opposite is true as well. If you call Quiet Technologies (Halo) the designer explains that because the clarity tips "screw" on, there is the opportunity for noise leakage. The good news is that you can go to any audiologist and ask for a handful of ear-tips that fit perfectly on the Halo. Total cost? $0.00

Can be an issue with the specific mold...keep that in mind...

I am using Westone molds, and have had no problems whatsoever John. Don't worry. A good audiologist shouldn't bother sending out a horrible mold to get made if it's not going to give you the protection that is standard.
