So the engine cut out, and he was gliding for a while BEFORE starting to spiral?? Sounds like he didn't keep the airspeed up in the glide and stalled it.

Sorry, 4 people in a plastic airplane with a 75kt over the fence speed, tiny tires with crap brakes and wet wing tanks? I'm pulling the chute (granted I am not over a huge populated area).

Also, I would take the news report with a grain of salt.

I think when you deploy the chute the insurance companies wave the deductible.

We practiced engine out on delivery but only simulated pulling the chute.

The POH in a Cirrus tells you what the touchdown rate is going to be under the chute. I can't remember what it is, but the book says that minor spinal injury could occur.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the first time we've seen video of a real deployment, at least while it's still in the air?

Total package if we have video from the inside too.

If I remember correctly, they say it's the equivalent of a free-fall from 10 feet.
