Regarding the GPS losing signal, we have a plane with that issue too right now (part on order, which takes a while in Indonesia). There are supposedly a bad batch of antennas that have caused this, but ours are WAAS 430's, not sure about yours.

The mid 2000's SR20's I got my PPL in had the STEC 55x...don't recall that issue however...but this 8 years ago.

Same here. 2005 and I don't ever remember the auto pilot ever disconnecting. and like everyone pre-G1000, I remember liking the Avidyne.
