$200/day is not a lot in the business world.

Don't let them bug you. Whether "$200/day is a lot in the business world" depends entirely on who you are and what you are doing. For consultants and IT folks, $200/day would be low. For most people, however, $200/day is a pretty good wage. A minimum wage worker makes only $41.20/day, and, nationwide, the average worker makes only about $520/week (or $104/day). So $200/day is well above average.

I think the point John was trying to get across was that who knows what the contract says. Maybe they don't work everyday so that would bring their potential earnings down. Also, that sucks that you compare that wage to minimum wage earners. Pilots deserve way more than minimum wage, and I know there are plenty of CFI's that get paid less, which SUCKS. Actually $200 a day is pretty good for a stepping stone, but by no means a wage an older career oriented pilot should earn. They have gone through a lot and spent too much to become a pilot.

If you go to the Pilots for Rent website you will see some typical "per day" rates. Nothing as low as $200/hr.

The lowest paid (experienced) contract pilot I know makes $350/day to reposition new Bonanzas.

When I do contract pilot service, I bill out more than $200 a day, and my rates are fairly reasonable. Depending on the customer and aircraft type, I bill $28-40 an hour or $225-350 per day.
