</script>DULUTH, Minn. - Cirrus Aircraft says it laid off 58 production employees to better position itself for next year.

The airplane maker said 32 workers were cut in Grand Forks and 26 at its headquarters in Duluth, Minn. It said the cuts put its total work force at about 550, down from about 1,300 in August last year.

The aviation industry says production has been reduced around the country. Cirrus said it has shipped 189 airplanes through September this year compared with 425 in 2008 and 461 in 2007.

the problem that I see is that Cirrus can not compete wit Cessna's financing options and Cessna now has the Corvalis to compete with the performance of Cirrus.

True, which has led to a 2-month spike in Cessna sales. But long term? I'm not so optimistic.
 
I'm not sure I trust anything coming out of Cirrus. 189 through September? Maybe if they count all the airplanes they've traded for debt obligations, which is a false number anyways. I won't go on, but I have very little good to say about Cirrus as a company.

Why not? I am curious...
 
Because I deal with Cirrus as a company on a daily basis. Their planes-great, as long as you get all the squawks fixed that come from the factory, their airplanes are great. Can they build any 2 planes the same? Never in a million years, for a number of reasons. But the people and mentality at Cirrus concerning their operations-unbelievable.

I deal with them on a somewhat regular basis also, hence the curiosity...
 
Miller3: how do you deal with them? AK came by work a few days ago. We did some work to his turbo. His r9 install looks nice
 
Curious about something - Cirrus does some buy-back programs with the fractional ownership companies that use the aircraft.

Do those aircraft show up as an asset or liability on Cirrus' books?
 
The company I work for has a fleet of eight 22 turbos, and is partnered with Cirrus to do training for them in our area. So I mainly deal with the Texas sales and service guys. We do go to all the shows and are usually set up beside the Cirrus guys so I have met the higher ups a few times but not to the personal level that I know the Texas guys. The rest of them prabably dont remember me at all, but they do know our company well.

We are a fractional ownership, and we sell outright our aircraft when we trade up. Thats not saying they dont do it, I dont know for sure, but we dont.
 
whoa nice. let me know how you guys like those turbos. and if you have any problems with them. we've started a warranty thing of our own, going around API. Since it's our system anyways, we offer our own warranty on parts purchased through us on warranty and out of warranty items. We got some airplanes from Cirrus, 7 I think this last time, and most of them were old SATSAir planes. Beat the F* up, but we're doing R9 upgrades and turbos and the works hopefully. I just looked at the TCDS and it still says time life of 12000 hours, I thought they were constantly trying to up that, but I guess with all their budget problems they haven't gotten around to paying the guy that does that testing.
