This thread makes me ashamed to be a part of JetCareers. Were professional pilots here guys....

The tenor of this thread would change dramatically if it was one of "ours."

It has happened here before. It will likely happen again.

Exactly. I'm sure some of these people will be whistling a different tune if a person close to them is killed in this aircraft.

It's exactly why I would never let a close family member fly with an amateur pilot in a jet, not without at least understanding the risks involved. Rich people don't get a pass on the laws of physics.

Neither would I; nor would I let a family member fly with an amateur pilot in an SR-22 or any other aircraft for that matter. That's just me though.

As tragic and stupid some accidents in this airplane are bound to be in the coming years, that doesn't make the spirit of this thread okay. It's pretty messed up to joke about and make potential monetary gain based on the suffering of others.

Dude, maybe you missed the last election... It's ok to be an ass now. Encouraged even! ;)

Which you've demonstrated perfectly by starting this thread.

Ass indeed.

Well I don't agree with your assessment of this thread.

I believe there could be a SMALL monetary benefit from the PREVENTABLE suffering of others.

It is a big difference.

I feel it is an example of the extreme cynicism that many of us harbor to those who feel that they can do our jobs as well as we can. Without effort, dedication or ability. These same people often disparage pilots and treat them poorly thinking they are "just bus drivers". I worked for such a person. After spending the day teaching him sailing and observing his impatience and ineptitude I declined to teach him to fly his Icon.

I'm sure he still does not understand why.

How exactly is starting a death-pool on an aviation forum going to accomplish that? Experience, training, and proficiency are what is needed to prevent these Cirrii accidents. And perhaps steering away people who clearly have no business flying these aircraft would help as well. I have almost 1,200 hours in Cirrus aircraft and used to fly exactly the type of people you speak of. I remember a prominent lawyer being one of our customers who had more money than brains, and could spend money almost as fast as he took it in. He wanted his own Cirrus and thought the parachute was a panacea for just about any type of emergency that could occur. No amount of discussion from me would have changed his mind.

That doesn't mean I'd find it even slightly humorous if this guy (or any other affluent person for that matter) were to die in an accident, even if it truly was of his own doing. There isn't a damn thing funny about leaving behind loved ones who will never see you again. This thread is a crude attempt at humor and nothing more.

Francis, Lighten up! We don't want an aviator to expire from apoplexy, either. Just so we're clear, this is a joke. No one's making any money.
Now, see how you ruin the joke when you make me explain it?? ;)

I guess I just don't find humor in profiting from the loss of life of others. Apparently you think it's side-splittingly hilarious, which is your right. Still sad though.
