Cirrus crash, Mexico

Glad to hear that a happy ending, not a good feeling trying to get in touch with a downed plane. We were asked by a United flight to attempt to continue relaying.

No, I believe it was a united flight that you were speaking to, they got a hold of us as they went outside coverage and we attempted a few times to reach you.

Well thank you for trying anyways, I didn't want to waste my battery so I turned it off so that I had enough for the next day.

You are lucky you had a parachute, as I'm sure you would have been in a world of hurt if you hit one of those very tall cactuses.
 
I'm thinking a "cougar" for me would be in the neighborhood of 85. While it makes me tremendously shallow, it's hard to overstate just how depressing that reality actually is.

And that doesn't mean I'm much of a catch for that "cougar" ;-)
 
I think I'd rather play my cards with the big cat variety of cougar. At least that way I know what I'm getting when I see it and my family gets my money when she kills me.
 
I was flying N441EP, a Cessna 441 owned by TK Mining, Delta Colorado. Departing MMHO I received a call from Mazatlan Center asking if I could help. An aircraft had gone down over by Puerto Penasco and there was no other aircraft in the area to find him. (Our other pilot, Ron, preceded me by about 45 minutes and had heard the distress call but was already in the US before he could help.) The aircraft was about 75 miles off my course and I agreed to go look. I proceeded to the coordinates I was given and found no airplane. I was able to talk to the downed pilot who had been flying a Cirrus SR22 N1645S. He could not hear my aircraft overhead so I asked him for new coordinates which he provided from his cel phone. (Smart Move !) This produced a location about 8 miles away. Once I was over that location he saw me and I was able to see him. The Cirrus is a 4 place airplane with a brightly colored parachute which he had used. I asked his status and he indicated that he was unhurt. He seemed quite calm and collected. I asked if he was ok with spending the night as it was sunset at this time. He indicated that he did not wish to but that he had a small amount of water. I took his father’s phone number so I could call him and tell him that his son was down but ok. I returned to my course and as I climbed out, I made contact with Hermosillo Approach again and informed them of the CORRECT coordinates, pilot’s status and father’s phone number. I was informed by Tucson approach that a helicopter had been dispatched earlier with the old coordinates and was unable to find him. They would locate him the next morning with the coordinates that I provided. This was about 40 minutes additional on the N441EP for a very good cause! (Thanks TK!) I was fortunate to be in there at the right time, acquire and relay information. Great job Ivan. You stayed cool and made good decisions! God Bless! Tracy

It is pretty interesting how there's only a few degrees of separation between Ivan and lots of other people on the website who were in the area at the time!

Oh yeah! I saw a few doing the rounds in San Carlos when I did a TDY a couple of years ago in Hermosillo lol. I found quite a few retired Americans there . . . one from Phoenix was really keeping in tip-top shape. Check out the Bonifacio's Cotton Club restaurant for some outstanding chow as well!

Great to hear that you made it out alright Ivan . . . I'm sure this experience will certainly be one you'll be sharing a lot for the rest of your life!
 
In case I havnt said it yet thanks everyone for their support and their comments it's keeping me entertained during these days that all I can do is lay on a bed and play call or duty which I am terrible at since I play once a year lol
