Anyone know why I saw a Chicago Express Saab 340 parked on the East Ramp at Manassas (KHEF)???

I see the company is gone (nice foresight FlyChicaga) and the company went up for auction, perhaps Colgan bought a plane or two and that's why the plane is in Manassas ... still in its Chicago Express colors.

If you got it's N number you could plug it into the FAA's database and see who it belongs to now.

I hear colgan is switching to an all saab fleet soon(rumour) and they bought a couple from chicaga..ive seen two diff planes on teh ramp. the one that was out there today was N311CE.

I am bored at work so figured I give this a shot. I went *airliners.net* and searched all the photos for Chicago Express and ran the tail numbers to see who owns what. I found 20 tail numbers on the photos (a couple from FlyChicaga) and of those 20, only 6 have current registrations listed on the FAA N-number inquiry page.

302CE - Colgan
308CE - Colgan
309CE - ATA
311CE - ATA
314CE - CSA Leasing
316CE - AMR Leasing

Hey Jim, since you've got that kind of free time, I can send you some busywork!

If you're serious, feel free. I'll be here until 6am CST....

I'd be glad to help out.

As far as I know, Colgan is buying most, if not all, of the Chicago Express Saabs. I saw two parked on the ramp in IND a month ago. Man, got me all teary-eyed seeing them out there, then walking right past the old torn-down ATA gate.

Yea i heard colgan is buying them.....heard they also bought a couple saab's for the IAH base from chic. express. I heart the saab 340.:)

Well, if you're really missing them (which I'm sure you are...), I believe 316CE is sitting up in Abilene at the AMR boneyard/maintenance facility. Paint job still looked like new.

Just a good airplane. Plus to me at least, it was my first. A first airplane is like a first girlfriend. Gave you lots of heartache, wasn't the best of the bunch, but you'll never forget her nonetheless.

Hey what's so great about the Saab?

When the ERJ breaks, who do they call? The Saab.

It's one tough cookie. And it burns about half the fuel of the jets. But alas it's loud and has these weird things on the front called propellers so most people (passengers) aren't too thrilled to see it. Especially when it's called out to replace the ERJ... haha

Saab driver here......downright fun to fly.

And, as far as T-props go.....it just looks sweeeet!!! One bada** plane that's making money on routes instead of loosing it like the RJ's (ala fuel burn...or lack thereof). I don't know for certain, but someone told me we only need 8 paying pax on board to break even for the routes (this is an average of course).

Pavelump's right though......about the unhappy pax when they see the props. It's funny to see pax come down the jetway/ stairs at LGA when you have an RJ and the Saab next to each other at the same gate. Pax come out to board and almost always head to the jet....until someone steers them our way. :p

Yep, Colgan's buying Saabs from CE.......bunch of street captains here from CE as well.

hahaha, pax hate all turbo props, even though they are turboJETS! I feel more safe on a propeller driven aircraft. That's just me.

And why is that? If the engine quits, it quits....
