Hey guys, just a quick question. I'm training for my CFI initial in Chicago at KLOT. Any idea of DPE's that will give a CFI initial in the area? I am having trouble finding anyone. Thanks!

Call your local FSDO. They will have the list of approved DPEs who are doing them.

The flight school usually asks the FSDO which then delegates them to their choice of DPE.

The guidance has been shifting around depending on the region.

A few months ago, for a CFI-A you had to call the FSDO, and they'd deal out the exams to the DPEs round-robin style, unless they needed to do one themselves for whatever reason.

As of about a month ago (in the Northern VA region, anyway) the applicant calls the DPE directly.
