I recently moved to the Chicago area and I was interested in possibly trying to get back into some GA flying. I am currently flying as a captain at a regional airline. Does anyone have experience with the GA world around Chicago? Somewhere I can get a checkout flight and maybe rent a Piper or Cessna by the hour? Any info is greatly appreciated!

At DPA.

2 C172s, Piper Archer and Arrow. All of them are IFR, 3 of them have autopilots and GPS with WAAS. They're immaculate. All are in private hangars year round.

You pay $400 to join and $95/mon dues. The planes are $100-$135 TACH/hr wet. You can schedule them online whenever you want. Way better than renting.

Wrong side of the lake but we have a great club at MKG.

$500 buy in. $49 dues. 152 $79, 172 $89, Mooney and Cardinal at $119 wet. All IFR.

Or just drop by and we can fly

Aurora (so a bit of drive West, but worth it.) Very straightforward checkout, and easy scheduling process. Very nice late 90's 172R's for $123 hr wet, no monthly dues or buy in required. Best place I've found so far in the Chicago area that doesn't require dues or what not.

I instruct at a school at KARR. They have 3 relatively new G1000 C172's that rent out at $160 an hour. There's also a fairly new Cessna 162 that is about $130. Pretty straight forward check out. PM me if you want some more details.
