Cherrymaxes

Roger Roger

Bottom of the list
So, fairly recently the FAA rewrote AC43.13 to require manufacturer or FAA approval for any installation of blind rivets. Not a big thing for the guys that work on Cessnas since they have an actual SRM that says something about where blind rivets can be used, but how about y'all that work on Cherokees? The structures chapter references AC43.13 for all sheet metal repairs, and if you've ever worked on an old 6 you know that about 80% of the wing is not reachable through the 3 access panels in it, so Cherrymaxes are almost a necessity. So what are people doing when it becomes necessary to replace a smoking rivet or patch a skin crack? Sucking it up and pulling fuel tanks to get to it? Getting DER approval for Cherrymaxes? Or does piper have some SB or SL authorizing blind rivets in places?

Come on Roger, you have long arms, I'm sure you can get a bucking bar in there. I also seem to remember hearing about using JB weld to fix smoking rivets before, but I'm pretty sure that came from either Bubba or Budreaux if you know what I mean.

Seems like what we all need to do is put pressure on Piper and Beech to send us a letter or something in writing that outlines where they feel blind rivets are okay to use.
