Cherokee's Delta Rants from "Alaska Hawaiian Merger"

You’re generous.

It's all about how a skilled "craftsman" utilizes the "tools" at their disposal. Ask Tiger Woods. Even he can shank a shot.

Who is being judgmental about the freedom of verbal expression? I don't like what you said to me. Oh really? Why?

I don't think there is a "normal" for a JCBA. Many of us have seen tons of Section 6 negotiations over the years, in different kinds of economic conditions and with different kinds of management teams (and pilot groups), so there is probably a sense of normal for that. There haven't been that many JCBAs in the modern era, and almost every one of them has been very different. USAir and America West never actually got a JCBA done, despite the Company throwing a fair amount of money at them, because of the SLI issue. Southwest/AirTran was pretty quick... because they just threw out the AirTran contract. Delta-Northwest was also very quick because Delta threw a ton of money at them and then they dumped almost all of the Northwest contract. United-Continental dragged on a bit because the two ALPA units couldn't decide which base contract they wanted to use to start negotiating with the Company. Once they sorted that out, it went somewhat quickly. American-USAirways was also pretty quick, as they mostly just kept the American contract in place.

How it feels to you could also be some level of calculation utilizing comms, or it could just be that you were seeing lots of dominos fall, and now there aren't as many falling each month, which could be a slow down or could simply be that the dominos remaining are all connected and much bigger.

This must have been a Company comm. I don't think ALPA linked a lack of meetings to SOC manpower needs. We've been more than happy to meet with the Company if they wanted to.

Ironically, out of all of those, only one of them was a simple cut and paste. The language in the other three was very different between the two contracts and has taken a lot of back and forth. Also, there are a ton of different definitions needed because a lot of things that should be defined in the Alaska CBA aren't actually defined, and any new concepts from the Hawaiian PWA that make it over will need defining.
All of that makes sense.

I honestly don’t know, but according to chat gpt @Cherokee_Cruiser is correct in what he is saying about kids sitting with families, I don’t understand the pile on.

The classic misunderstand of how fare categories work and, that misunderstanding, the inability to figure out why he can’t pick adjacent seats. It’s all in the thread.

I’m going to say this about all airlines, not just towards that one Air Line. A good portion of the flying public flies maybe once a year, so they aren’t as familiar and maybe have flown 5 times or less since all these (bare)fare wars made their way to the big airlines. I don’t expect them to always read the fine print, they compare fares and the lowest they will take. So having a carve out for minimum keeping a family that booked the same time seems like they should be able to stay together. I mean, put them back row or whatever crap seats will sell cheap, but keeping families together on all fares seems legit to me. We can laugh at the stupidity of the general flying public, as they deserve it sometimes but I try to remember not everyone is in the air transportation environment for half of their lives.

My normal response to “why does ticket X cost Y on Z when …” involves “the Dark Side is a pathway to abilities many consider … unnatural.”

Well, we’ve had a number of generations to educate ourselves how the various fare categories work.

“I mean, why does that 18 ounce ribeye cost so much when I can get 24 ounces of chuck roast FROM THE SAME COW for ‘cheaper’?” :)

There’s probably room for me to care a bit more, as it undoubtedly holds hands with the Company’s reluctance to comply with the new deadhead seating ladder. Parking my bougie butt in COMF+ is expensive. Upgrading me before any other revenue passenger probably more expensive goodwill wise.

But at the end of the day the deal’s the deal, on that.

I really feel dirty defending CC's point, but I'd also say he's not wrong. Every other carriers seats minors next to a parent in Basic Economy. It's strange that Delta doesn't. It would be like them charging business class passengers for booze on an international flight, when everyone else doesn't.

Ah so. Perception over perspective. We need a Six Sigma project for this thread. Too many green belt triggers for me in this dialogue.

Thanks for sharing.

I mean I hate defending the competition, but the metal tube and all contained within is all going to the same place. Does it really matter if you’re a couple rows away?

Hell if my mom could have saved a couple bucks back in the day she for sure would have shipped me separate. Hell, it would be a win/win to seat me next to some other poor SOB so she wouldn’t have to deal with me and save a couple bucks.

If you want the Spirit Airline’s fare, read the warnings before entering your CC information. Berating a gate agent when you can’t move your seat or take a bag onboard is obviously the next logical step though. /sarcasm

Most of us just minding our own business, and here comes CC.

Long as you're making eye to eye contact and not smiling. . .we're good. Change that?

Not so much good anymore.
