Checked bag question...

This summer I'm flying DSM-ORD-MUC-ZAG but I changed my mind, I wanna spend a few days in Germany and take a bus from there. Should I send my checked bag with a friend who's flying to MUC but 10 days before me or can I tell the CSR in DSM to check my bag just to MUC.

I talked to my travel agent and he said just to get off in MUC, is that ok to do?

Without checking...my guess would be Zagreb, Croatia.

correcto

Yo Cruise, I was looking through my phone and saw your number is still in there from njc. If you get a DD from a 515 number, you'll know who it is :)

You'll be clearing customs in MUC with your bag. Just take it then.
Only if his final destination is MUC. European customs are somewhat illogical in that respect, you do clear border/passport control but you get your luggage at your destination.

I've made this trip 3 times before and each time my plane is running late to Europe (whether connecting in CDG[worst airport ever], FRA, or LHR) so each time they rushed us to the plane for ZAG.

I'm flying to MUC with Lufthansa this year so I'm hoping it might actually be on time.

Taking the bags out for customs is not related to being late or not. ;) I've connected through MUC both to Schengen and non-Schengen EU members, either way it's a matter of passport control only, no bags.

Last time I flew with Lufthansa to Europe, the could not start an engine on their 747, we ended up about 2 hours late. Not a big deal, on the way back I was already rebooked for the next flight.

On the way back, they cancelled my flight from SOF to MUC (12/31), so I ended up coming home to SEA with 3 connection. Again, they were ready with the rebooked trip when I showed at the airport.

Also, is this a one way ticket or are you coming back from ZAG later on the same ticket? If it is a round trip, there may be problems with the flight back if you just walk out and don't fly a segment on the outbound trip. The best way (but maybe a bit more expensive) is just to add a stopover to your ticket (used to be about $100?) for your stay in MUC.

No passport control is what I meant, an agent waiting for the few of us connecting and took us around passport control to the plane. We did have to go through screening but we skipped to the front of the line.

Thankfully I'm flying in a Boeing with LH :)

Yep it's a RT ticket.

Ha, didn't you get the memo? I'm not accepting DD's at that number. :p

Have fun on the trip...sounds like good stuff.

It was a 747, SFO-FRA. :D

why is that

For all practical purposes, it cancells the rest of your ticket, call and have it changed to a stopover, if you really want to do that.

Sorry, I meant to write Airbus. I guess it's operated by an A340.
