Cheating on FAA Exam...

It would be interesting to just print out those NTSB Opinions that Blackhawk posted and put them in the guy's mailbox. Then see if he goes through with the ride. :pirate:

These are just some of the ones that made it to appeal. I personally know of other enforcement actions where the pilot in question did not fight the action, either due to lack of funds or knowledge that they had no chance.
 
I never saw the point of logging anything less than 50nm as cross-country. How is anyone supposed to keep it straight if there's only one block in the bloody logbook for XC!?!?!
 
Some logbooks come with two.

When I was keeping track of 135 mins I wrote in a second column.

Call 1800-Tell-FAA if you feel concerned about it. I would wait until after the fact, because at this point, he hasn't done anything wrong.
 
I love the fact that i'm being made out to be a tattle, yet if you knew me outside this forum- you'd know I'm not as such- It's just when you feel strongly about what you are working so hard to obtain and someone comes in and cheats and might take a job that you were HONESTLY working towards- its a unfair feeling of extreme hatred...

I didn't and WONT tell on this guy- cause im pretty sure that it will eventually catch up to him, and as others have said.. .it isn't really my problem- i just got wrapped up in the emotions of it all yesterday, and now I don't have to worry about the karma train....

I have never logged a flight less than 50nm X/C. I had plenty doing it that way to meet ATP mins, so I saw no point in doing it any other way.
 
Maybe you can just email your coworker and tell him how you feel about him taking the checkride without the proper time, but that you decided not to "tattle".

Then IF he decides to continue the checkride, dont worry about it. He will probably feel some guilt every time he sees you.

Or man up and tell him to his face what your opinion of him is. That's the rarely-seen confrontational side of me coming out.

Or if you really want to make a point, key "Nice ATP, cheater" in to the hood of his car and slash his tires while he's taking the checkride. That's the non-existent-in-real-life criminal side of me coming out.
 
Let things play out. If it he makes it through the ride make a call to the FSDO and sugest the review his logbook. I'd be 100% passive about it.

For the record what he said sounded a lot like something I would say just to mess with people. I tell the dispatcher all sorts of crazy stuff, like "sheesh, we didn't break out until we were in the flair, I was gettin' scared!" Of course I didn't do that, I'm just messing.

I came in one morning and he mentioned I was looking a bit sleepy. I remarked (again, totally joking) "yeah, I did lots of meth over the weekend, I'm still getting cleaned up." Unfortunately a fed had followed me in the door. He sorta got the humor.

Normally these problems will sort themselves out without your intervention. Otherwise, you might get more work and somebody can get a new DPE position.
 
I heard there was a time where you actually had to go to the FSDO to have your logbook verified before you could take the practical? Any of the more seasoned guys on here have to do this for the ATP?

That use to be the case; my ATP was with the FSDO as part of my 135 ride, so verification was done there anyway. Not sure anymore.

If he gets caught, he gets caught. Life is full of situations like this. YOU just do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. Life is too short to worry about what others are doing.
 
Sounds like a couple of petty, jealous cfi's sitting around pissing and moaning that someone is getting a leg up on the pile.

I'm just curious and the OP hasn't answered the question that several have posted-how do you guys know the person of interest doesn't have enough XC time for the ATP?

And by second thoughts I mean, "maybe we should just forget all about it?"
 
I think your concerns are genuine, and this could be something that becomes a bad situation. If you are at a flight school, I'd give an anonymous tip/alert to your chief if you have one, the FAA if you don't. This guy has already been confronted and warned, so authority needs to be called.

I'm a lot like you, very by the book with flying, and while I do have fun and my students enjoy their flights, rules and regulations are strictly enforced for a good reason.

What I believe is eating at you is the recognition that this guy is cutting corners now, so what will prevent him from doing so later on? We have regulations for a reason, and they shouldn't be disregarded like this guy is doing, and if he goes forward, it might not just be him who may pay the price for this later on.
