My only pitts rides were in the 90's and I specifically remeber toe straps. They are the part of my story where I realized I was in for some serious stuff.
If I never push more than -1g again, that will be just fine with me. You can have that crap.

Rocked the rubber-soled Ariats for many years. Then I got a yob that had me on the road for two weeks at a time. Leather uppers are rad. Having space for me weeeeeee litle Caribbean sandals so I can blind the locals with the heat-shield white of my legs? Moar rad.

I love 'em. I rock the brown ones these days with my land based job, but they're still my go to footwear, no matter the occasion (assuming flops aren't socially acceptable). Pretty sure I've forgotten how to tie a pair of shoe laces ...

Last week in El Salvador overheard the handler speak to his boss on the phone and apparently answer the question about the pilots with "One's alright, the other one is gringo". Had a good laugh about it with the captain - he's from Iowa, guess which one of us was "alright" and which one was "gringo" ))

I wear plain black Ariat western boots with the synthetic soles most of the time. Works with just about everything in my wardrobe ... except with shorts. That said, my girlfriend can pull that off with room to spare.
