http://airtech.com/ -- very cheap if you are flexible on dates and cities

STA travel -- if you are young, or a student or teacher, also some great deals.

I've flown on Tupolev's before, I don't recommend it if you value your life. I would actually avoid both Eastern Bloc aircraft and especially crews if at all possible. Most Russians I know will be a premium to take Finnair, Delta or BA instead of Aeroflot...

The cheapest route is to put yourself in a box and ship it to where you need to go.

Flying is not cheap.

Condor Airlines has some cheap flights to Europe out of FAI, they're over the pole too, so they'd be quick.
