I am moving to Charleston SC here in a few months. Any idea on good places to live? Or not to live? I'll be working at the airport.
Thanks!

Alpha,
Congrats on your move to Chuck town. I absolutely love the place, I have lived there for over 10 years. I am no longer there, but I can offer some tips and hints to selecting a good area to live. I have had the commute to the airport/airbase for some time. Due tot he geography and poor planning for growth the roads can be quite congested in the am/pm commute. Also you have older neighborhoods and area's that are GHETO fabulous. It would be hard to show you without pulling out a map. However, the last several years before the recession saw a huge growth spurt with lots of NEW housing pop up everywhere. There can be good deals on renting a newer house or finding a newer apartment.
The new parts of Summerville, Goose Creek and north Charleston are awesome. Close enough to everything, but far enough from the beach you are not paying inflated prices. For a good quick commute and accessibility to I-26, and the younger professional crowd i would recommend the area of North Charleston anything in north area of Rivers Ave/Hwy52 and university blvd. West Ashley can be pricey and old, but the night life is a big draw. Mt. Pleasant can be good if you can afford it, but then you have a long commute to deal with traffic.
Try craigslist and apartmentfinder.com for some reference. I like Atlantic Palms in north Charleston or anything new in that area.
Good luck and hope you get settled in. You going to be working at the FBO or Boeing or Airline? I will be back to visit friends in mid August. I can show you around if you like to have a beer.

Charleston is a great place to live, I've lived in the Charleston Area for 16 years now and went to college at The College of Charleston. My parents live in North Charleston, in a really nice neighborhood. North Charleston and Summerville can be great places to live. Downtown is the place to be but the most expensive. West Ashley is OK, Mt Pleasant is OK, Daniel Island is really nice, you can find some great townhouses for a good price. In my opinion the best place to live is the Park Circle area of North Charleston.

It's a nice place. Am on the other side of the river from you.

Which of the rivers, I'm not a native. On the boat we hit the Stono, the Wappo (?) gap, the Folly River, whatever that channel is that runs by Reds.

Pour House was on James Island if I remember correctly.

Meet and Greet Charleston this weekend?? Maybe an afternoon beer on sunday?

Ah man, all these Chucktown jc'ers...

Hope I can meet up with a few of you one of these days. The girlfriend goes to MUSC and I think she's going to "force" me to move down there when she gets done.

Charlie south is a fair town. I prefer 'Cola to be honest, but the coast is beautiful in Charleston. Got a lot of family out that way. I know Mt Pleasant has some really nice houses and apartments.

I'm down for tomorrow or sunday. I think the storm has passed for the most part. What are you guys thinking? Downtown? Mt P? Reds is decent place, Genes in west ashley is good. Poe's out of sullivans is the spot and my favorite the Madra Rua in Park circle.
