Hmmmm... that $30k wouldn't involve any expected commission now would it? And is paying for your "re-certification" the norm for being hired as a flight instructor?

My original certification was just fine, thank you!

Bougus job offer guys. Although it sounds good, me, and it should be all of us, shouldn't have topay for our initial training. If I agree to a 6 month/1 year contract that's fine, but pay for training was killed back in the 80's at the airlines and shouldn't even be accepted by us CFI's

I agree. We are already certified to teach people, and I already paid enough for my ratings, not going to pay more to some flight school in Kansas that thinks their sh$t don't stink.

This place said a few things that are either not true or just stupid. First the BGI, IGI and AGI are just test, so saying that "this 250-hour package is made up of NINE (not five or six) certifications," is not true, most people when they take there FOI take the AGI, plus the BGI is not rewuired if you take the AGI or have a CFI, that is just wasteing money. Second, "the “union card” of the professional pilot is the Airline Transport Pilot Rating. This is a 1500-hour commitment. Without that card, your income potential (should you be fortunate enough to secure commuter airline employment) would be between $18 and $25,000 per year. Not a very good return on your training investment (especially with a huge loan to repay)." Where else are you going to go with 1500 hours, regionals are the only ones, plus the ATP is not the union card.

Whether the test is written or practical, it's still a test.

Are you saying that a Ground Instructor has no certification?

Lets be honest here, the AGI, BGI and IGI are nothing compared to the CFI or CFII tests. Adding them to that list is misleading, b/c most people will think that by having those makes you better or more qualified.

I agree, this is just marketing 101 here. If you have the CFI/CFI-I, the AGI & IGI is totally useless. I used these tests as 'practice' tests and was able to do the AGI written in 14 minutes and IGI written in 11 minutes...so all I wasted was $120 for both tests, it didn't take much time at all :).

Also, when I read the reg RE: AGI/IGI's, it looks like it 'expires' and goes out of currency after 2 months or something crazy like that. After that, you need an endorsement saying you're good to teach again - I'd rather stick with the good ol' CFI.

I know of at least one 4-year University's flight program that requires all of it's CFI's to have AGI's.

I'm not saying that those certifications are as difficult to get as any others. However, they're still certifications!
