CFIs at Riddle/Prescott

I was in Prescott a few days ago talking to my friend at Riddle who's in upper management and the word is that they need applicants in a bad way. I guess they're hiring 25 in August and only have 13 so far and no other app's to look at so if you're interested I would apply on their website. I didn't attend riddle but I did teach there for 2 years and can attest that its a great CFI job. Good Luck to those that apply!

Do you know how many hours they require? If they require something like 200 dual given or not? Thanks!

Right now their website doesn't list any time requirements and I think that they're getting to the point where they will have to actively recruit applicants to get the class filled by August. I guess that their new pilot enrollments are up to pre 9/11 numbers and half the new private pilot applicants will have to hold off on starting for a month or so just to handle all the flying. So if you're interested this could be a perfect time to get in.

I saw an ad in Flying or AOPA Flight Training and it listed 500 dual given as mins.

that's the problem I've been running into everywhere! Nobody will hire a zero dual given flight instructor that I've found as of yet... I've heard back from a number of places I've applied that they require at least 200 dual given prior to hiring. Oh well...

gomntwins- i was in the same situation your are. i got hired at an fbo with 0 dual given. try looking into that. also, the more willing you are to move for a job, the better off you'll be. if you're willing to come to florida, i believe phoenix east aviation in daytona needs instructors in a bad way. at least they did about a month ago. they will hire will 0 dual given. hang in there, i know what it's like.

Have to hang in there if you're looking for a CFI job.

I can't tell you how many resumes I dropped off before someone gave me a chance. And the job that I had, even though I complained incessantly about it turned out to be the breakthru opportunity that helped me get to where I am today.

The reason no one is applying is because they are essentially hiring 'sim operators' and calling them flight instructors. My buddy over there does 25 hrs flight time and 25 hrs sim time (un loggable) a month, and he's the average. Multi upgrade is approximately 2 years.

Not very much IMO, considering I do 60-100 loggable hours per month at a 61 school.

Riddle is screwing them selves. Who is gonna wanna teach there if they don't get to log any time?!? Only the still-in-school CFI's are gonna teach there and while they may have quite a bit of knowledge, they don't know how to effectively teach. I know, I was there once

I only posted this because its an available job hence the forum title "Jobs Available". There's plenty of places to go whine about different jobs and employers and the more people who come on and do that the less someone is likely to list a job.

i don't know about prescott, but in daytona eventually all the instructors will be able to teach multi. since new students get their private single then their private multi. so although you aren't logging a lot of flight time eventually it will be mostly multi.

Same here. Went on a one-day resume dropping trip post-Riddle in the entire PHX and TUS metro areas. From Falcon to Goodyear, from Eloy to Buckeye. From Ryan to Tucson international.

And it paid off. Took a while, but paid off.

So 25 hrs a month multi. Great...let's say airlines want a minimum of 1000 hours TT before they'll hire. Regardless whether its all multi or all single with 200 multi, you still need the time.

1000/25 = 40 months instructing = 3 years 4 months. I'll be at a regional with much less than 2 years, it's looking something like 1 1/2 years the way I'm going.

I'm not a riddle hater, in fact I graduated over at DAB. I'm pissed because I believe my school is screwing the students as well as the instructors in order to make more $$$. A seminole sim over there cost $180/hour, as quoted by one of my buds who just finished up that advanced multi course (he did his multi off-campus).

From what I've heard of the course outline, a multi-commercial-inst rated pilot will have 100 hours of logged FLIGHT time in his/her logbook. And the SEL stuff is not included - it's extra.

FWI from what an instructor friend told me, not sure if they've changed it as i'm sure its evolving even as we speak, but students will solo in the 172 and then from there on out will be in the multi.

I know it's a job, but I'd hate to be instructing for 3 years, that would just SUCK! If you want all the multi go work at ATP

I got an email the other day mentioning the fact that Riddle/PRC was in fact desperate for sim jockeys...I mean flight instructors. And there is no longer a dual given requirement, which prior to now had been in place since 9/11. The industry's on its way back I guess...

I'm pretty sure you can apply online.

I'm getting the impression Riddle isn't a worthwhile place to apply... oh well. I guess I'll keep searching in the PHX area!

I think it would have been worthwhile if they hadn't switched to Part 142. The place is ridiculous now.

I just got a letter today from the chief pilot's office at the ERAU Colorado Springs USAFA. It looks like they're in the recruiting process in a major way. Anyways, they require 500 dual and you can apply online. Its pretty much getting future Air Force pilots their private pilot's license before they start training and all the training is done in Diamond Falcons (like a Katana I think?). Anyways, sounds like a good gig with lots of flying (single engine of course)

Talked to a friend of mine at ERAU Prescott who is in charge of new hires. They are in need of instructors but they still require 300 Dual, if you got it and interview well then you got the job, on a side note he told me that they only fly about 50 hours a month. Dont know what the break down of that is.

Part 142 strikes again. From what I understand, instructors are often overloaded during the non-summer months. If they didn't spend so much time at a computer in the back of a simulator, they'd get a good amount of total time.

That's funny...I just received an email from the career center the other day saying that Riddle has lowered the minimums to 0 dual given. I guess I will have to talk to a friend of mine who is part of standards and get the scoop. Here is the email.

This email is for all alumni who have a CFI, FII, and CMEL
certificate!

Our flight line application requirements for IPs has been
lowered to having the certificates, with NO DUAL GIVEN
REQUIRED.

If you meet these requirement, I urge you go to the ERAU -
Prescott Human Resources web page and apply on-line for
future interviews.
