Thought I would offer up a quick write up for anyone going for a CFII ride soon as I know it helps ease the anxiety. After taking the initial CFI no more than a month ago...anything seems easy compared to that so sorry if I sound lax about the ride haha.
Ground was about 2 hours with all the IACRA schtuff. Covered everything we needed to based on the PTS but at a minimal level. Topics included pitot-static instrumens, gyro instruments, lots of failure questions (ex. what would you teach to your student if this were to go out), lost comm procedures, part 61 instrument requirements, IFR recency requirements, whats included in an ICP, does it reset the recency clock, anti-ice equipment, required equip for IFR (with some clarification questions ex. do you need 2 comms or 2 navs?), tell me everything you need to know about the ILS, what happens if you get a full scale deflection on an approach, how does this defer from the PTS...thats all I remember for now
Flight was simple and laid back. Taught him a common cockpit check. I asked him the sequence of approaches we would be doing and went ahead and loaded the first one in and briefed it to him on the ground. Took off and did BAI, steep turns, and unusual attitudes. Did a fully coupled GPS approach, went missed and took vectors to the ILS, went missed again to hold at a VOR and take the VOR-A to a full stop. Basically just talked my way throughout the entire flight focusing on the 5 T's and ASAP-MICE-ATM. Made an absolutely PERFECT crosswind landing and got my CFII!
Hope this helps!
