CFII PTS questions

I currently hold a Commercial Pilots certificate with an IA rating and a CFI certificate with no rating. I passed the CFII written and am getting ready to go for the checkride. I was going over the CFII PTS and had a question I was hoping someone could answer. On page 12 (addition of an instrument rating to a flight instructor certificate) I understand that my credentials allow the examiner to eliminate tasks I,IV,V and VII from the checkride... am I interpreting this correctly??? if so, is there still a good chance he will try and get me on these tasks?? I am ready for the checkride either way, but I want to make sure that I have all the MANDATORY tasks down to a science before I go, thanks for the help.

Not sure if I'm reading the most current PTS for the CFII, but I'm reading that your examiner doesn't have to test you on I and IV. I did my CFII as my initial, so when I added my CFI-A, I didn't have to demonstrate the FOI stuff or teach any lessons. The examiner pretty much told me that we could skip all of that.

I was also taught that any of the stuff in the PTS is fair game. Was your CFII check pretty easy?

I believe you are looking at the right PTS. I currently Hold an IA on my commercial... If you look at the legend below "IA or H" and then look under the column on the page, you can see that those tasks that I mentioned are eliminated... am I reading this wrong???

the FOI stuff isn't required, you're right. but, as chris mentioned, technically anything is fair game and on an instructor ticket i wouldn't be surprised if you at least ran through the mnemonics straight out of the AIH.

Well, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Since it was my initial CFI, I got hammered pretty well. That being said, since instrument work was my strongest skill set at the time, it wasn't so bad. I think the most accurate way for me to say it is that I trained really hard, studied really hard and stressed like crazy. In the end, the checkride wasn't even so bad. I was in the airplane for between an hour and an hour thirty minutes. The oral was long and covered quite a bit of material, but it wasn't a big deal.

Now, my CFI-A add-on? Piece of cake. Really. Simple. Almost just a delay before lunch. . .

My CFII was ridiculously easy - I was almost disappointed. 15 minute oral - and that included doing all of the paperwork stuff - took off, flew a VOR approach to a neighboring airport, missed, ILS back to home. I didn't say a word(no teaching) except the normal ATC comms. The DE got a decent nap - it worked out well for everyone.

Just depends on the examiner!
