CFII initial checkride on both ASEL and AMEL

Lets say you have a CPL with privileges on both single and multi engined aircraft, and you decide you just want to teach instrument training to pilots. So you decide to do your CFII initial, do you need to;

a) Do two check rides, one in a single and one in a multi to get CFII privileges on both types of aircraft?

And regarding the multi..

b) do you still have to fullfill the 15 hours PIC requirement, plus complete a MEI before you can have CFII privileges?

If your student has a multi-rating then you CAN give him instrument training in a twin.

If your student does not then you cannot.

The 15-PIC is for the MEI. Note, there is no MEII.

That said, what is legal is not always what is smart. You're opening yourself up to a huge can of worms both legally and professionally.

The MEI is just about the easiest instructor certificate to earn. Do yourself a favor and knock out all three. Right now you're competing with a lot of qualified people who have all three and are willing to put the time in since they have no place to go. By pigeon holing yourself into "just" being a double-eye you're doing more harm than good.

Hi :), I appreciate your reply and your opinion, however I just wanted to know how to get the ratings required to teach single engine instrument and multi engine instrument.

I am fully aware of how competive the job market is and all the details about how tough this industry is with limited ratings. Trust me, I have no intention of flying big iron or corporate. This aviation industry is just too volatile to be a professional jet driver - in my opinion! And I value my weekends and family time :).

But please consider that I could have a very well paying, non aviation related day job, and I just wish to teach part time or freelance because, I love flying and teaching! So in that case, if all I want to do is teach IR, then thats what I'm going to do.

So I assume by your answer, that all I would need to do is just the CFII ontop of my CPL/SE/ME, without the need to gain my MEI or do two checkrides? Please correct me if I'm wrong in that assumption.

thanks

This is correct. Only one check ride.
