If you ask me, that is absolute bull$&!t. The PTS definition of instructional knowledge says you are not only alowed to, but expected to consult an appropriate reference to explain the topic. You said you'd consult the PHAK, that should sufice. Unless you were compltely bombing up to that point, it sounds like the examiner was a complete prick. If I were you I'd consider going to another examiner forthe re-check. It sounds like this guy likes to make up his own PTS and I'd hate to hear you busted the flight for getting 1/2 a dot high on the glideslope.
