CFI Standardization Class

I am a CPP graduate, I sent my resume to ATP and they told me I would have to wait until the new standardization class, but they don't tell me when it is supposed to start. I had a P/T job offer at an FBO, but I don't know if I should start there or wait for ATP to call me since I would make more flight time there. Does anyone know how often they have this training? Please help!
Also, ATP told me to be ready for a phone interview. Any idea what that's going to be about?

In this economy, take the part time job. When ATP calls, if you want to go there, go. You never know how long you might be waiting for the phone call.

Take the job with your FBO. If you have to leave them on short notice oh well. But dont sit around for ATP to call. They may call tomorrow, or 6 months later. Especially in this market, take that CFI gig.

The phone interview is just a formality. They will ask you general questions you might here at any interview. Tell me about your background. Customer service skills, stuff like that. I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Good luck. ATP is a tough place to work, but the multi time and experience is well worth it. Especially since they have up'd their pay considerably (sp?) since I was there back in 03. OR have they changed it back?

The problem is that the FBO would want me to sign a 1 year contract with them and start with no pay until some new students sign up.

In the phone interview they will ask some Seminole system questions out of the Seminole supplement. I just had it in front of me to reference during the interview.

Welcome to aviation.... Take what you can get. You are guaranteed nothing in this career and thus if you have a job offer you might not want to snub your nose to it. Jobs are hard to find. And there's NO guarantee ATP is going to even bring you on. There are pleanty of my former students still instructing there nearing in on 1.5 years. And they are not leaving anytime soon.

Yea, those guys dont have anywhere to go unless they get extremely lucky.

And working for ATP is a pretty good gig in the grand scheme of things.

I know that ATP just ran a standardization class earlier this week. I have a buddy that was in the class. The rumor is there is going to be another class starting in May. My advice take the FBO job. Why would that make you sign a contract for a part-time position? Are you sure it isn't a non compete agreement? If that is all that it is then you could still go work for ATP as long as it is not at the same airport.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll do. I'll take the FBO job, I talked to them, they say if you quit before a year you'll just have to pay for standardization in the G1000 & Dutches ($500 for 5 hours), anyway, it is still worth the experience and if ATP calls I'll just pay and leave. I'm more interested about making good amount of hours in shorter time.

What can the FBO do if you quit when ATP hires you? Ban you from renting thier 172? Seems like a no brainer to me!

How can they MAKE you pay for something you didn't agree to purchase? Wackos. Yeah ATP will get back with you when the time is right for them to take you on. They are still hiring from my understanding and standardization classes are currently in operation. Good luck to you, maybe i'll see ya around. What location are you looking to instruct at?

Such a contract is completely unenforceable and will not stand up in court, but it would never get that far anyway. Besides that, you should be paid for any instruction time, if they don't have the students yet, then in my opinion there is no job... just a vague notion that there may be one in the future.

I live about 10 mins from RDU, so that would be the ideal location for me, but I really don't care as long as I'm constantly flying. Charlotte or Richmond would be nice too. Thanks, good luck to you too!

Is the FBO you've got the job offer from at RDU?
