CFI School - progress thread

Day 8 - Another Solo sim practice day, I did two sessions, and silly errors with Holds are gone, they were spot on the last practice. Did ground study and started tweaking lesson plans, optional, but I figured 1 page per plan is best so they may need pruning slightly. Also looked at ATP written, plenty of CFIs and academy students taking it, not a priority for me this week at least.

They are still working on an MEI date and said I may have to extend, though equally, something may pop up early, so they wanted to know if I was willing to train on that chance. Of course! I think it will still likely work out for the days chosen, but I'll be prepared for the C-310 either way.

Lost a memory stick, nothing related to class, but still important. Hoping it will turn up tomorrow.

Tomorrow is 5-8pm C-172RG to start the Airplane add-on maneuvers. Plus Sim/Ground AM/PM.

Day 9 0800-2000

Effectively another solo day, no sim as yesterday went fine so I plugged away with ground and work. Weather closed in so a couple of checkrides were delayed so no flying for me. I hate pacing around, but there really was nothing to do. Can't have too many days like that.

We did the 172RG / CFIA ground talking over maneuvers and x-c flight planning. Lots to do tomorrow, flight 8-11 and ground 2-4.

Alex.

Day 10 - 0800-1600.

First a flight to cover approaches, 8-1030 then 12-2 to finish up the ground.

Approaches went well, first ILS was shady but 2nd bang on. All else fine.

Got cash for the examiner ($800) and books at Banyan (fxe)-amazing place

One flight to polish things tomorrow, a spin flight and then IACRA etc.

Day 11-0700-1930

Had an early flight, mock checkride, so steep turns, compass, timed, hold, GPS Approach. All went well so we stopped there and did the spin endorsement. Good fun!

After that, confirming IACRA and ground study, tidying up notes and brushing up. I would have been out of there around 5 like normal, but a couple of check-rides went awry.

C-172RGs were in and out of maintenance most of the day, one guy failed and one passed. Another guy was having trouble with a hard ass instructor. I sat in the Sim with him and gave him ATC clearances to help him work on that.

Now a good nights sleep and laying everything out in the morning,

Alex.

No worries, I have heard of him, and he can test in the C-310, so I may even fly with him. Looking at other threads, he seems well known in the industry down here, same with Brooks Black.

Alex.

Don't forget Pinkston. Seems like those three are pretty popular down there. Very similar to Stange and Tillery up in Jacksonville.

Yeh, pinkslip is Pinkston's IACRA log-in. I saw him fail someone, not too pretty.

I PASSED! Took about 6 hours total went through the groud efficiently. Flight was tough, basically use of trim and not instructing enough, but I took good lessons from it...

Now the crazy stuff, the school are like, how are you on the ground/maneuvers, we might switch the Airplane add-on to Monday with the same guy.

Not what I was ready to hear, but I'll do C-172RG x 3 hours tomorrow and see whether I am PTS. I get it flying with the same guy is easier but I'm still processing today's experience.

Will do a fuller write-up later.

You bet!

Essentially, ground, 4 hours, FOI, systems, Navaids etc

Flight was takeoff FXE ILS, airwork (steep turns, unusual attitudes) and partial panel GPS.

Alex.

Agreed, I'm confident but not having flown the airplane yet with an add-on in 48 hours time?

I'll sleep and fly in the morning and see how I do. CFII is not useful on its own, so I have to do at least one more check-ride. The MEI is fun, but not good job wise without the CFIA.

We'll see, Night all,

Alex.
