CFI renewal question

I'm taking the american flyers FIRC, my CFI expires on the 31st. If I complete the FIRC before the 31st do I still have to go to a FSDO and renew my CFI prior to the 31st or face having to do another checkride?

The reason I ask is that I'm kind of running into an unforseen event that is going to take 3 days of my time where in I had anticipated going to the FSDO.
 
I got in the same kind of situation and just paid the $35 to have them do it. Other than that I'm not sure what to say.
 
If you mail it to AF, they have to have it and process it before the end of the month. Until a FSDO processes it, all you have is an application. Read the fine print on the instruction page and you'll see it written there. (That almost caught me last year.)

You have a few days left before the 31st -- get cracking!!
