CFI rating

Just a quick question, i was looking at the wonderful FAR's and notice that under Flight Instructor certification there is no real requirments other than having the previous certificates and the required logbook endorsments. Could some of you guys give me an idea of how long it took to do the CFI rating?

Thanks,

Keith

Depends on the training you go through. At ATP, you can get it done in about two weeks and have CFI/CFII/MEI knocked out. Some places will take longer. It also depends on how much you're willing to read and study outside of the school and how current you are on manuevers and aircraft. I'm figuring for myself something close to two weeks if I fly/study every day (7 days a week) and maybe 2-3 flights/ground sessions a day. Probably add a week each for the CFII and MEI ratings. Mileage may vary, though.

What Kellwolf said.

I did my CFI-I as my initial, and I banged it out relatively quickly, while holding down a family and full-time school.

My CFI-A took about 3 days.

Really.

do your commercial from the right seat while explaining everything, make some lesson plans and read up on endorsements and take it the next day for the cost of examiners fee and 1.6 on the hobbs. seams like a no brainer.

i've heard of that being done before, but i've also heard that some examiners won't let you take a commercial ride from the right seat. your best bet might be to do it 50-50 and take the commercial ride from the left, then show up the next day and do the CFI ride from the right.

Just find a different examiner. Those examiners (just like the CFI's) work for us. They are NOT the FAA, and they can not make their own policy. If they want to make rules based on "personal preference", give your money to another DPE. Then, tell everyone how much that examiner sucks.
