What the heck to they want for this in the PTS?

Preparation of a recommendation for a pilot practical test, including appropriate logbook entry for—
Initial pilot certification.
Additional pilot certification.
Additional aircraft qualification.

I have an idea, but I would like to bounce it off you guys before I spend a bunch of time studying the incorrect informaion.

My examiner wanted to see a written set of minimums for first solo, the actual endorsements I would use in various situations, and that I could handle the paperwork for sending someone to a checkride.

I don't understand your question.

You need to know what endorsements are required for each scenario listed.

Initial Pilot Certification - Private Pilot
Additional Certification - Added Category/Class
Additional Aircraft Qualification - Type rating ?

AC61.55E has it all listed for you.

You guys rock. That is what I figured. The "Preparation of a recommendation" is what was throwing me off. Thanks.

I just had my CFI oral...(got a discontinuance due to wx and we couldn't fly)

some of the questions I got pertaining to endorsements are:

A student comes to you and has been flying a Piper Archer but just bought a C182 and wants to finish his PPL in the Cessna with you?

what would you do to solo him? to get him to a solo XC? what endorsements would you give him and where would they go? how would you go about giving those endorsements, how would you write them and how do you prove to me as the student that this is what he need.

OR another one i got was

I am a Comm Rotor craft - helicopter pilot with Private ASEL also...give me a Flight Review?

What aircraft are you allowed to give it in. What will it consist of? and most importantly does a FR in a c172 count in a Bell 206ranger?

those are the type of questions you'll get pertaining to endorsements....plan on getting a lot more btw!

true, but at least for the present time an additional aircraft qualification endorsements for complex airplane is still required for the commercial practical- unless the pilot is grandfathered in.

Same situation if, for instance, the PPL practical is to be done in a cub (tailwheel), or the Instrument practical is done in a 182RG or Bonanza (High Performance, and complex)

Without a doubt (also need those endorsements for solo flight). But so does every single CFI signature for every single flight that shows the requirements for the certificate was met - all of those are required for the practical test also. That's probably where the conversation that the question starts with is going, but the initial question was a bit more limited.

It's the old "answer what was asked and wait for the next question." A lot of folks think of that as avoiding saying more and getting into trouble. I've seen that many times in a number of contexts. But there's another reasons for that - answering the question asked without going further demonstrates an ability to organize thoughts which sometimes reflects better understanding of the concepts involved, even if they are, as in this case, definitely related.
