CFI looking for minimums...

Would you believe all the flight schools are looking for 350 hours total time before they will hire you. I live in the Nashville, Middle Tennesse area and I am looking for a CFI gig to save my life. Meaning I got my CFI, now I best use it or lose it, and start to pay back these loans. Well, my total time now is around 250 hours. So I need in general 100 long hours. So if there is anyone around the Middle Tennesse area who needs a bi-annual flight review, safety pilot, or IPC, halla back.
 
its a crappy boat to be in. I was lucky enough to find one place in town that would hire me, but i found out why because they were absolutely horrible to work under (2 person management, first time flight school owners, didnt know a thing). So I am sitting right at 300 hours now and tryin to pick up time as it comes here and there. Try working as a line guy and meet someone that owns a piston single and maybe you could work an arrangement out. good luck.
 
If you are willing to relocate I'm sure you could land a job somewhere. There are lots of schools looking for CFI's. If you haven't done so already look on AOPA's school postings section under classifieds for CFI jobs. Good luck. Keep your head up and something will come about. It took me 6 months to find a job after getting all my instructor ratings.

oh yeah, and if you don't have your CFII, consider getting it because that will make you more marketable. My flight school is only hiring instructors that have their CFII and I know a lot of schools do the same.
 
Well I thought about that but I just bought a new house back in February. I am currently working on my CFII, but I have an instrument ground instructor. I have some plans later on this year, you know I am so anxious to get out there and start building time.
 
Hi there, I am in a similar boat. I just got my initial CFI about two weeks ago. I've begun sending resumes to all the local flight schools but I am not sure if I will get any takers. Frankly, I think the Middle Tennessee area is saturated with CFI's because of the proximity to all the pilots of MTSU (myself included...)

nah, not too cold here. it's middle of november and it was close to 80 the last few days. windy today. nice thing about denver is that if it snows, it's usually gone in a day or two. the city is nice. the economy sucks and the opportunities for picking up a CFI gig off the street are a roll of the dice.

Yep, we'll be needing more instructors than there are currently students at Sierra so we'll need to hire from outside. Its a pretty sweet setup. We'll have dorms, a restaraunt, laundry facilities, a gym, a recreation center with pool tables, ping-pong, and a big screen TV, and everything is FREE. This is all in adition to $18/hr with a guarenteed steady flow of highly modivated students that will NEVER no-show or come unprepared for a lesson. I can't think of a much better sitation for a CFI. In the next day or two I'll post more details in the jobs available forum.
 
Thanks flyguy for the invitation. That would be a tremendous move for me right now. Just about how much do apartments run there, and again what city is the flight school in? Oh, yeah do you guys have a website?
 
The main campus is located in Livermore, but we are starting up a new campus for international airline contract training in Atwater CA. Appartments out there run about $500-$600 for a 1 bedroom but if you want to stay in the dorms it will be free. The dorms are not too shabby. The rooms are fairly large. You get your own room but share a bathroom with one other instructor. Everyone gets their own sink and refrigerator. We do have a website but it is for the regular Sierra Academy and you won't find much if any information about the new program. http://www.sierraacademy.com
 
Does anyone know a multi-engine time building platform in Middle Tennessee? I am looking for my 15 hours multi PIC to get my MEI. Or does anyone know someone who flies a twin engine airplane and who wants those hundred dollar burgers in the Tennessee area?
 
Be dedicated, but don't say that!!! Market yourself as a flight review specialist, or make package deals for owner-operators, or something, but don't say "I'll do anything to build time..." There are enough people whoring themselves out in this industry, i.e., Gulfstream, etc.

Just my opinion, take it or leave it...
